Causes and Symptoms
Just like you need to maintain proper personal hygiene so that you do not get any germs or disease, you also need to maintain proper oral hygiene so that you do not suffer from any gum disease and infection or sore gum problems. There are several causes behind a person suffering from sore gums or bleeding gums. Wearing dentures constantly without giving your gums any rest or brushing your teeth vigorously can cause sore gums. Allergies, and even leukemia can be a cause of this problem. Lack of proper nourishment or some sort of infection in the gums or teeth such as gingivitis or periodontitis, can also cause sore gums.
A person will usually suffer from receding gums problem or painful gums. The gums also turn red and one can also see yellowish patches of accumulated pus. The teeth also become very weak and the spaces between them increases. Even the gums start bleeding.
Home Remedies
There are several treatments which you can try out at home. They will give you instant relief from the pain and irritation and will also prevent the spread of infection. In a way, home remedies are better than taking antibiotics, because sometimes it might not suit someone and also, it may take time to get rid of the problem. Given below are some home remedies which are bound to help you a lot.
- Aloe vera gel is the first thing that comes into my mind. If you apply aloe vera on the affected area, then it will soothe the pain fast.
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water, mainly after meals. This will not only get rid of the pain, but will also kill any kind of infection present.
- Light up a small branch of a sheesham tree. It will start frothing and it is this froth which is one of the best bleeding or swollen gums.
- A good treatment for sore gums would be to use a paste of salt and ginger applied to the infected area.
- Another remedy is gargling with boiled Henna leaves water. Just take some leaves and boil them for around 10 to 15 minutes and then gargle at least twice a day.
- Avoid tobacco or alcohol and even avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol.
- Lack of vitamin C can also be the cause of sore gum. So take in as much as vitamin C as possible. You can also take in food or fruits that are rich in vitamin C.
- Wearing dentures all the time can lead to sore gums. So after every 6 hours, remove them and let your gums breathe. Remove them before you go to sleep.
- Gargling with lemon water, is another good treatment. It will also get rid of the bad odor that comes out from the person's mouth.
- Following a healthy diet that is rich in calcium, is also good for the gums as well as the teeth.
- Maintain proper dental care and visit the dentist after every 6 months. Follow what they say.
