Sony Ericsson Satio: A Touch of Class

There is no doubt that the Sony Ericsson Satio’s most renowned feature is its 12-Megapixel camera. This revolutionary device is definitely a pioneer in this regard as it is the first Smartphone to feature such a powerful camera. Although Samsung beat Sony Ericsson to it with the Pixon 12, the Satio still remains to be the first Smart device to feature such an astounding snapper.

However, too much attention on this amazing feature might work against the Satio. Some people may be too quick to count it out as nothing more than an overemphasized camera phone, when in reality the Satio has so much more to offer.

Touching Distance

With a 3.5-inch touch screen, the Sony Ericsson Satio has one of, if not the biggest screens in the market. However, the superiority of the device doesn’t stop at its size; the touch screen navigation system on the Satio is arguably the best we’ve seen on a Sony Ericsson device. Considering the past success of Sony Ericsson in this area, this is already quite a compliment in itself. However, we’re willing to go as far as saying that in terms of sensitivity, accuracy, and responsiveness, the Satio’s touch screen is up to par with the likes of the Palm Pre or even the Apple iPhone.

The aptly sized high resolution screen combined with an extremely user-friendly touch screen interface definitely works well with the Satio’s beast of a snapper. Setting up, shooting, and editing photos has never been this easy, while at the same time sophisticated.

Some Room for Improvement

Although we’ve already praised the Satio’s touch screen system to the high heavens, we still believe that it has some room for improvement. Individuals with ADD and those who love to multitask might encounter some issues with the Satio’s occasional freezing. It isn’t actually freezing, it’s more of slowing to a point that it sometimes gets frustrating. This dilemma is definitely something Nokia users will be familiar with. Although it may not be as bad as the experience we had with the N96, it still isn’t perfect. This only makes sense as the Satio too will be equipped with the Symbian operating system which has been part and parcel of nearly all the recent Nokia mobile phones.

But then again, be informed that what was tested was merely a prototype version. Surely Sony Ericsson has made vast improvements since then and we should expect a smooth and silky device once the Satio is released in September.
