Something Unique for Mother's Day

Mother's Day gifts get harder and harder every year. This year, don't stress about the gift, instead find a unique way to celebrate and personalize whatever you get her!
Mother's Day

Mere, mutter, maji, madre, makuahine, mom -- however you say "mother," it means love. The second Sunday of May is the time to celebrate Mom’s love with flowers, gifts, greetings, and most especially, hugs and kisses. Because we all have moms and because this is such a special day, we couldn’t resist learning how Mother’s Day became an official and well-deserved holiday.

The Origin of Mother’s Day

How did Mother’s Day get started? The concept of honoring mothers has been around since the ancient Greeks held a special springtime festival for Rhea (mother of the gods) and motherhood. Mother’s Day, however, was not recognized in the United States until centuries later when, in 1912, Anna Jarvis started an annual memorial day for mothers in West Virginia. A year later, nearly every state adopted a more general holiday to honor moms both living and deceased. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed "Mother’s Day" a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday in May.

Mother’s Day Gifts
About 90 percent of Americans honor mom with a gift on Mother’s Day. Some of the more traditional Mother’s Day gifts are flowers, candies, and frames for family photos. We found some fun ideas from Lenox to make your gift even more special this year. For instance, why not give mom flowers in a Lenox crystal vase and make a promise to fill the vase with flowers all year long? And because moms love framed pictures of their children or grandchildren, BlueMountain.com lets you customize and print Mother's Day frame mats.

Run a Race with Mom
A fun way to celebrate more fitness-minded moms is to participate in a Mother’s Day 5K Race together. This will give you and mom a chance to catch up, get a little exercise, and support a good cause. If mom starts to get nervous before the big race, send her a fun good luck eCard.

Give Mom a the Gift of R&R
If a little relaxation is what your mom needs most, then a spa visit is the perfect Mother’s Day gift. Find Mom the best spa package by visiting the Spa Index Website. If it’s hard for your mom to get away, why not make her a Mother’s Day spa gift basket or give her personalized printables from BlueMountain.com that promise restful moments. It will be money well spent, because everyone knows a rested and relaxed mom is a happy mom!

Mother’s Day Cards
One of the most universal ways to tell mom you love her is with a greeting card. In fact, nearly 150 million Mother’s Day cards were sent throughout the world in 2005, making Mother’s Day the third largest greeting card occasion of the year. And because no two moms are alike, BlueMountain.com offers a variety of styles, including cards for every definition of "mom," special cards for first-time moms, cards for moms who are your friends, personalized cards "From Kids," and more. Send a funny, cute, or heartfelt Mother's Day eCard from BlueMountain.com!
