Somalia, Four Sheikhs, and One Vision

The idea that international bodies, foreign administrations, secretive circles of power and neighboring enemies can appoint the leadership of any country is ridiculous, perilous, and criminal.

The assumption that the Western life style, the evil facets of modernism, materialism, consumerism, conformism, relativism, evolutionism, capitalism, and conventionalism can be imposed on any indigenous nations in the various continents of this world is also ridiculous, perilous, and criminal.

The effort to implement the aforementioned on a nation that has been targeted for decades through repeated biases, involving colonialism, conspiracy, partial treatment, wicked disregard of its past, historical record, national educational system, diplomatic isolation, bribery and all means of corruption, constitutes a real genocide.

For the Somalia Genocide the main responsible have been England, France and the (controlled by London and Paris) US establishment.

The same powers that entrapped Somalia’s leaders in the 60s and the 70s,

The same powers that employed all devices to avert
- the national consolidation of the Somali Nation,

- the formation of a National History of Somalia, covering Antiquity, Islamic Ages and Modern Times,

- the establishment of a national Somali educational system that would allow all the Somalis to be permeated by the elements of their diachronic Kushitic identity and the cultural integrity of Punt – Other Berberia – Azania – Somalia,

- the interconnection and political unity among (confederation of) the modern Somalis, the Afars, and the East African Muslims (who inhabit the coastlands of Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique and the islands), and

- the national unification of all the Somalis, involving Djibouti’s largest part, the Somali province of Kenya and Ogaden

The same powers that played the shameful game of being enemies of the Soviet Union – only to use Kremlin against the targeted Somalia nation,

The same powers that used the appalling and inhuman tyranny of Abyssinia, fallaciously renamed as Ethiopia, in order to promote discord, enmity, corruption, division and evildoing in Somalia,

are now supporting the shameful and silent puppet Sheikh Sharif.

This predetermines the margin of maneuver and the political identity of the TFG president Sheikh Sharif. Even if for a moment we suppose that Sheikh Sharif can act according to Somalia’s national interests and against the aforementioned evildoing, we can be sure that he would immediately be physically eliminated by his own promoters and supporters.

To serve Somalia, Sheikh Sharif must oppose the powers that perpetrated the aforementioned anti-Somali policies and are now supporting him, as they find in his person an easily containable puppet and an ideally adaptable tool.

Consequently, to serve his masters, Sheikh Sharif must work against his own country, monstrously deform it, viciously divide it, effectively destroy it, and definitely dispense it.

This reality - that cannot be denied in any public debate - clearly demonstrates that Sheikh Sharif and his small group of Somali renegades and corrupt thugs are the Somali Nation’s cruelest enemies – because they precisely serve the aforementioned evil anti-Somali powers’ interests.

In fact, the only service Sheikh Sharif will be allowed to offer his colonial masters is to destroy his own country.

That’s why the only service Sheikh Sharif is able to offer Somalia is to resign immediately and either go abroad and live in exile or participate in a National Unity Government along with those against whom he is fighting today, namely Hizb ul Islam and Shabaab, and the three sheikhs of the opposition, Hassan Dahir Aweys, Hassan Turki, and Mukhtar Robow.

The three sheikhs have engaged their forces in a national liberation struggle, marking a relative success in May 2009.

In a previous article, I offered a foreign policy spectrum for Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, Hizb ul Islam, and Shabaab, suggesting interconnection with forces that oppose the United States and their European colonial mentors, London and Paris, namely Venezuela, Bolivia, Myanmar, and others. I also recommended contacts with several institutions of the Catholic Church and Vatican that strive for authentic faith, cultural integrity and thoughtful standpoint vis-à-vis the trap of the modernism. Finally, I underscored that Somalia’s and China’s parallel history and mistreatment at the hands of the evil European colonials constitute a preamble to China’s foreign policy’s change that can herald a totally different approach to Somalia for Beijing and a recognition of the Islamic opposition by China.

That article attracted the interest of many Somalis of the Diaspora who turned the distance that separates them from the Horn of Africa to dedication and concern for their nation’s future. I therefore received several mails, and exchanged ideas with numerous Somalis whom I want to thank for their appreciation of my publications.

Among many letters, I want to publish here my correspondence with Mr. Abdi Dirshe, a Toronto-based member of the Somali-Canadian Diaspora Alliance; I absolutely share his idea that the top need of all the Somalis now is a Vision for Somalia.

I believe that the three sheikhs of the opposition must now realize that they have already achieved substantive results in their military engagement in the Somali South and Center; they have not eliminated the TFG infrastructure but the final stage of the effort in the ground is not necessarily a matter of the utmost urgency.

What becomes now urgent is the following:

1. the formation of a Government of Somali National Unity (in opposition to the TFG unrepresentative adminsitration) whereby the three sheikhs should invite people from all parts of Somalia

2. the convocation of an All Somali Elders Convention to define the needs, the role, the position, and the gains of the various tribes’ leaders in the new sociopolitical situation that the three sheikhs herald

3. the resumption of diplomatic contacts with several governments, political parties, NGOs and cultural associations, international bodies and organizations, and

4. the formulation of a Solemn Declaration of Independence and Peace for Somalia that will include the Vision the three sheikhs offer to the Somali Nation.

Cheated and betrayed by many corrupted "leaders", the Somalis have suffered tremendously over the past 18 years, paying an extremely tribute in blood. They now deserve a frank leadership that will do its best to offer the Somali Nation Peace and Concord, Liberation and Unity, progress and Prosperity.

I will dedicate several articles to the subject; herewith I publish the two mails I received from Mr. Abdi Dirshe that in their succinct form encapsulate all that is important to all the Somalis.

All that Sheikhs Hassan Dahir Aweys, Hassan Turki, and Mukhtar Robow can deliver.

All that the deviate Sheikh Sharif cannot deliver.

First Letter Sent by Mr. Abdi Dirshe - Somali-Canadian Diaspora Alliance

Dear Dr. Muhammad,

Thank you for voicing our ideals so tirelessly and coming to the defense of so many defenseless peoples. Your in depth analysis on Somalia and China's potential role in Somalia is tremendously important and it's one I personally applaud.

I am, however, afraid that China has already accepted its position in the international order, and may want to pursue its economic and political agenda through insalient method which is to be not antagonistic. Some may even argue that any changes that will come to the people of Somalia will be one that they have worked for.

The three Sheikhs may have failed to engage with the wider Somali public and in the absence of any dialogue have contributed to the fear and skepticism many feel towards them. I wonder if the three Sheikhs would welcome infidel country like China.

What we are lacking in Somalia are leaders who have national vision and agenda and who can anchor our national plight to that of other peoples everywhere with similar historical, social and cultural narratives.

Before China or any other country can help us we need to have a national vision and that starts with a national social contract to restore years of mistrust and mayhem.

With humble and deep respect,
Abdi Dirshe

Second Letter Sent by Mr. Abdi Dirshe - Somali-Canadian Diaspora Alliance

Dear Dr. Shamsaddin,

Thank you for your kind words.

I am a member of the Somali-Canadian Diaspora Alliance, a member organization of Somali Cause.

Moreover, I would also point out that there is a discourse among the Somali people about the current crisis in Somalia.

This discussion recognizes the interest of the Western governments as they continue to support and implement their international agenda of globalization which is facing its worst economic and political crisis.

Many countries such as Venezuela and its Latin American alliance, China and Cuba are proposing different economic model which recognizes the social and economic rights of citizens and rejects the laissez faire global agenda of free trade.

Recognition of this does not, however, negate the responsibility of those pursuing sovereignty in their national agenda.

Those who are seeking political agenda in Somalia must show political maturity by proposing political, social and economic program which can compel Somalis and other progressive nations to support.

Those of us in the Diaspora have engaged directly with the proponents of Islamic governance which could serve to eliminate the politicized tribal-identity which has its roots in colonialism and further sustained by those who want to undermine the emergence of national-statehood in Africa.

We have made it very clear that we did not support any tribal based system.

Somalis share many commonalities which could offer the thrust needed to achieve a strong state with solid, deeply shared values which would guarantee the sustainability of the nation-state.

By offering a tribal-based national political system, enemies of Somalia have guaranteed a never ending political crisis which requires external assistance in the form of interventions, invasions and the hijacking of the Somali national agenda as is happening now.

Our dialogue with the Islamists could have helped the elimination of tribal politics and unite our people. Unfortunately, the Sheiks, have either accepted the tribal politics due to unknown reasoning or joined forces with unknown Islamic ideology which calls for violence against all.

The Somali peace process in which dialogue could have been possible is in the hands of external actors, leaving the Somali people's future hang in the balance.

I will argue that Sheik Sharif has been set up to lead "a war of all against all" as suggested long ago by Hobbes in the state of nature.

He needs to come up with a social contract which addresses the concerns of the people such as justice, rights and offer a political agenda. Sheik Sharif's offer to join a warlord-infested government with tribalist agenda is not attractive enough for any group. I urge him to move quickly and pass a law that prohibits any reference to tribe affiliation in the constitution. Institutionalize political organizations and offer amnesty to his opponents but uphold the law.

With deep respect,
Abdi Dirshe
