Solar Energy Disadvantages
With the natural resources depleting very fast, there is a trend to turn to alternative forms of energy. Solar energy being the most popular. However, there are some solar energy disadvantages, due to which it has not become as popular as it should have been.

Disadvantages of Solar Energy
Before we start reading about the solar energy disadvantages, let me tell now the advantages of solar energy do outshine the disadvantages. You may not agree, but if you go through advantages and disadvantages of solar energy, you will no doubt agree with me.
One of the most prominent solar energy drawbacks is the initial cost. The equipment necessary for harnessing the solar energy, does dig a hole in the pocket. The main cost is of the solar panels. Due to which often people are of the opinion, it is best not to switch over to solar power from fossil fuels. At the same time, when the solar panel has to be changed it does cost a considerable amount of money. The next cost is the installation cost. Although there is a government rebate on the solar energy equipment, the installation cost does go up considerably.
The next of the solar power disadvantages is that it requires a lot of space for it to be efficient. Not everyone would have the necessary space to install the solar energy panels. This is especially true of city areas or the inner city areas, where there is a space shortage. Along with space, it has to be so installed, that there is no shade on the panel. If there is shade, either due to adjoining structure or due to trees, then the unit will not function as it is expected to function.
In areas where sunlight is not available majorly through the year, the solar energy may not the right option. The areas which have a number of overcast, rainy days, or where there is a lot of fog, solar energy may not be produced the way one would expect it to be. This is especially true of the extreme north and south locations. In such a case more panels will have to be installed, so that one can derive the best from the solar heaters.
If you have to read about the solar energy pros and cons, one con mentioned is pollution. The pollution in your city can cause the degradation of the photovoltaic cells of the solar panel. Although changes have been made to the new solar panel to curb this problem, some issues still do exist. At the same time the material used to make the solar panel can also cause environmental pollution. Silicon is used to make the solar panels, which have toxic metallic elements like cadmium, that can cause harm to the environment as well to the people around.
One of the disadvantages of solar energy is that no energy is produced in the night, when the equipment is rendered useless. One can overcome this solar energy disadvantage, since the batteries charged with solar power can be used during nighttime. No doubt, this will help to save electricity and money as well, as one will not have to spend money to harness the energy apart from the initial installation cost.
These were some of the solar energy disadvantages. However, if one has to consider the advantages of solar energy, one will want to give a thought to the very fact, that solar energy may indeed go on to become the ultimate source of energy in the future. There is a lot of research, which is being carried out in this field, with which we will be able to stride over the disadvantages with ease.
