#1 Basic Sugar Cookies Recipe
Get started with...
- 1½ Cups butter (softened)
- 1 Cup sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla essence
- 4½ Cup flour
- ½ Tablespoon salt
Use a blender to beat the butter, eggs and sugar, until light and fluffy. Now add vanilla essence to do away with the egg smell. Add salt and flour to the above mixture. While adding the flour, be careful and add it slowly and mix continuously until you arrive the dough-like consistency. It is better to knead the dough with the hands as it ensures completely mixing of all ingredients properly. Wrap the dough in a plastic wrap and keep it aside for a while. Now roll the dough into 1/6 inch thick disks and place them on the baking sheets. Preheat the oven to 360° F. Bake the cookies until light golden brown, it may take around 15 - 20 minutes roughly. Place the cookies in the oven for 5 minutes even after it beeps saying time out. Now, remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool down. Decorate it with frosting or however desired, and store in an air tight container. They last for 2 months easily.
#2 Soft Cookies with Frosting

- 1 Tablespoon baking powder

- 1 Cup sugar

The basics of making the cookie dough being the same as above. Here, to the mixture, add a little baking powder to make the cookies rise or rather fluffy on baking. Instead of rolling the cookies into round disks, you can have triangles, strips or any shape you like (my grandma makes chocolate shaped, and last Christmas, she shaped the cookies as Christmas trees just like in the picture above). To prepare the icing, mix sugar, corn syrup, vanilla essence and milk (if required), and beat it properly. Add food coloring to give your frosting the required color and stir. When you reach a thick consistency, stop and keep it aside to set. In the meanwhile, the cookies must be ready, remove them from the oven and place them in a cool and dry place. Once they cool down, top the cookies with the frosting using decorator frosting tubes in any design or to suit the occasion. (Christmas tree shaped can have green colored icing with a little golden sprinklers sprinkled on). You are sure to earn some good appreciation!
