So Far As I Can Tell

A story about finding a true love.
One day while I was walking
Across a dusty track,
I met a pretty maiden,
A sack strapped across her back,
I plucked a flower from the ground,
She wallowed in its smell,
I said, "Ma'am, this rose was made for you,
"So far as I can tell."

I asked her where she was going,
She says, "I'm wanderin' by and far."
She held a hand out to me
And asked that I should follow her,
She led me to a forest glade,
She caught me in a spell,
I was simply bewitched by her
So far as I can tell.

I swam within her deep blue eyes,
I swam into her mind,
She let me know her secrets,
And not one was there unkind,
This lady was an angel,
She held an angel's soul,
Her heart was full of precious love
So far as I could tell.

She sung a song of wisdom
While I sang of romance,
She filled my heart with wonder
While I held hers in my hand,
I felt it beat against my palm,
It served its purpose well,
It showed me what true love means,
So far as I can tell.

I looked upon her beauty
As a gift sent by the Gods,
I leaned on her to lead me,
That I may never become lost,
That I may find my salvation,
And that I may find myself,
I found both in my love for her
So far as I can tell.

Now that I have found the answer
To the enigma of my soul,
She'd taught me that true love is found
Within a heart of purest gold,
I allowed her treasure into mine,
And in it she will dwell,
To be with me forevermore,
So far as I can tell.
