SNL Star Amy Poehler Gives Birth to a Baby Boy
Amy Poehler and husband Will Arnett welcomed their first child into the world on Saturday night, at just about the time when Poehler’s "Weekend Update" was airing live.
Those watching Saturday Night Live this past weekend found out during the show’s famous "Weekend Update" segment that co-anchor Amy Poehler was missing. The reason? As her fellow co-anchor Seth Meyers informed us, she was having her baby. Poehler, who has been a part of the Weekend Update team since 2004, was conspicuously pregnant on the show this year, most notably on last week’s airing of the late-night comedy show, in which she made a quick stop on the scene of a guest appearance by Mark Wahlberg (he produces Entourage) and was, as usual, behind the Weekend Update desk with Meyers.
Poehler, 37, has been married to fellow comedian Will Arnett for several years now and this is the couple’s first child. "I've been very lucky," Poehler said during the summer. "I’m feeling good, and I’m just overwhelmed with blessings." Poehler, who is in her last season with SNL before departing to star in a yet-to-be-named sitcom on NBC next year, was part of the first all-female team to sit behind the venerable "Update" desk for Saturday Night Live, joining Tina Fey there during the 2004-2005 season before Fey departed to star in the NBC hit "30 Rock." Thereafter, Meyers stepped in and the duo has been working the jokes together quite nicely since then.
Poehler, who also has worked in various films, had a small role in "Mean Girls" with the aforementioned Fey and was also in the recent release "Baby Mama," also with Fey. Arnett, who has had various roles in film and was a part of the hilarious cast of "Arrested Development," is set to star in the comedy "When in Rome" with Kristen Bell. We don’t know much else about the baby other than it’s a boy and he weighed in at a hefty 8 lbs. 1 oz. The safe money, however, is that the kid will be funny…
