Snacks for Kids

Parents should have adequate knowledge about snacks for kids for their healthy upbringing. However, kids are picky eaters and are certainly not easy to please; so here are some names of good and tasty snacks for kids...
For adults, snacks are something just to fill our stomach or let us get through the day. Adults often call hamburgers, hot dogs and various other junk food as snacks. However, the situation totally changes when we speak about kids. You obviously can't feed a little kid a hamburger or a hot dog for health reasons. Most kids are stubborn, if they like a particular food item they would want it daily and believe me, feeding your kid junk food everyday is not at all beneficial for the kid's overall development. So if you are worried about what to feed your kid on an evening, here are some healthy snacks for kids.

Best Snack Foods for Kids

Kids have smaller stomachs, they may not eat much at once but they get hungry frequently. The problem with kids is they are choosy when it comes to food and they will obviously choose sugary foods over healthy snacks and appetizers.

Fruits
They are healthy, juicy and sweet, and extremely popular among kids. Obviously the kids play with them more, instead of eating them. If you want to make your fruit time more delicious and irresistible use low-fat plain yogurt with it. You can also take some freshly washed grapes and store it in freezer and use it as an afternoon snack.

Smoothies
If you are looking for a filling snack which can be made easily, there is no better option than smoothies. This is one thing even the fussiest kid can't refuse. Give them fruit smoothies which are tasty and highly nutritious. Avoid buying canned smoothies from stores which have high levels of sugar in them. They would have a high calorie content and will serve as a full meal for your kid. Try making homemade smoothies with fresh fruits such as strawberry, banana, plain yogurt and low-fat milk. Smoothies made from fresh fruits contain high levels of protein and are excellent examples of quick healthy snacks.

Cereal
If you want to increase fiber content in your kid's diet make sure he/she eats a big bowl of cereal. The good news is cereals are a favorite with kids and they can be made more appealing by adding fruits and honey. The bad news is many cereal brands are adding artificial sweeteners to make it more appealing. So I advise you to shop for cereals which are low in sugars and more in fiber.

Cheese
Cheese is a rich source of calcium and is one of the most versatile foods which goes with a lot of things. String cheese is a favorite with kids as are grilled cheese sandwiches. Try making grilled cheese sandwiches at home and slip in vegetables in it. Cheese and crackers are also a filling and nutritious snack. However, health experts do not recommend buying them from market because they are not made from real cheese instead they are baked with refined white flours which are not considered healthy for kids. For a healthy option try making these cheese crackers at home.

Mini Pizza
There's no one in this world who doesn't like pizza. It's a perfectly healthy snack. Take a muffin, a whole pita as a pizza crust. Now spread some tomato sauce and add a light sprinkle of mozzarella cheese, with chopped green vegetables. If you can, you can also put some pieces of lean meat and heat it for some minutes in a toaster or oven. Mini pizza can be an excellent idea for an evening snack.

Apple Sauce
Apple sauce is an easy way to get apples included in your kids diet. A rich source of vitamins and fiber, always pick up the low sugar varieties from the market. Remember not to give plain apple sauce as it tastes bland. You can add cinnamon and some raisins to make your apple sauce more delicious and nutritious. Cinnamon is an excellent spice which provides kids with a healthy immune system and helps in regulating blood sugar.

So these were some examples of nutritious snacks for kids, to make this more fun you can also involve your kids in making snacks. Remember that kids love delicious food, so it's very necessary that you keep learning some healthy recipes for kids.
