Your first instinct would be to yank it out and smash it with something heavy. But I'm going to ask you to fight it and follow the instructions this article is about to provide you. Smoke Alarm Beeping Even with New Batteries
- First of all, be absolutely sure that there is no smoke anywhere in the building. If not your home, perhaps the neighbor.
- Once you are sure that there's no smoke anywhere in the vicinity, then you need to check the batteries.
- Now you may have replaced the batteries recently, perhaps what you overlooked was the expiration date on them.
- Most of the time, smoke detector beeps when the batteries are dead or beyond the expiration date.
- If the batteries are new and the beeping still persists, then you need to check the expiration date for the smoke alarm itself.
- They come with an expiration date and if the date is off, you may have to replace the entire unit altogether.
- Now again, if there is no issue with the date, there might be some dust, debris, bugs, or spider problem. Overtime, dirt and insects can find a home in the area.
- Remove the smoke alarm from its place and use a hand vacuum cleaner to blow out any and all dirt from it.
- Last but certainly not the least, search for the costumer manual that came with the unit. Read it to see if there are any particular troubleshooting tips mentioned in it. If not, then you can call the manufacturer itself and ask for help.
- Fire alarm systems are smart, but if the unit is beeping when there's no battery inside, then that can be quite a scene.
- In such a case, you need to unplug the alarm from the wall itself.
- To do so, unplug the wires from the unit. If the alarm is on the ceiling and you can't reach it properly, use a ladder and be very careful.
- Take the batteries out, if you haven't already and keep them on the side. Check their expiration date.
- If the batteries have expired, get new batteries.
- Now, locate the "Test" button on the unit. You need to press this button, after removing the batteries, till the beeping or chirping sound stops.
- This "Test" button will discharge the remaining electric current in the unit. So keep pressing it.
- Once the beeping stops, insert the new batteries and connect the unplugged wires.
- Place the smoke alarm back in its place, on the wall or ceiling.
- After this, there should be a green light that will tell you that your smoke alarm is back to work.
- Even after going through all this hassle the beeping doesn't stop, replace the unit altogether.
