Small Cat Breeds
The cat is a small predatory carnivorous species of crepuscular mammal that belongs to genus felis. It is also known as a domestic or house cat and has the ability to hunt vermin, scorpions, snakes, and unwanted household pests. It has been linked with humans for past 9,500 years. There are different breeds of domestic cats which can be identified by their appearance, vocalizations, body language, eating habits, etc.

Out of many breeds, one of the most unique and uncommon breed of cat is the small cat breed. Some of the cats belonging to this breed are as follows:

Devon Rex
The devon rex cats are small cats that emerged in England during 1960s. They are known for their odd striking appearance and playful compatible nature. Due to their small size and unique appearance, they are also known as 'pixie cats' or 'alien cats'. They have large eyes with a slightly upturned nose. Unlike other cats, their whiskers are very short and curled, and have large ears which are set low on the sides of their wide head. Devon rex cats are lightly-built, have long and sturdy legs and their toes are unusually large. These cats come in all colors. They are mischievous, active and people-oriented. They are high-jumpers and will occupy places like closets, shelves or laundry baskets. The devon rex cats are intelligent and have a peculiar penchant for being close to the head or neck of their human companions.

Singapura
The singapura cats belong to one of the smallest breeds of cats established from three 'drain cats' imported from Singapore in the 1970s. They are known for their large eyes and ears, brown-ticked coat and blunt tail. These cats are moderately stocky and muscular, having a short and fine coat. The adult singapura female usually weighs around 5-6 pounds while the male weighs in between 6-8 pounds. They have large, pointed and deep cupped ears with large almond-shaped eyes. Their tail is slender with a blunt tip, slightly shorter than the length of their body. This breed's coat style is similar to a ticked tabby, i.e the individual hair strands have alternate sections of light and dark color, with dark color at the tipd. These cats are active, playful and curious. Singapura cats are affectionate and have a tendency to perch on high places so as to have a better view of their surroundings.

Japanese Bobtail
The Japanese bobtail cats are the breeds of cats that have a unique bobbed tail, resembling the tail of a rabbit. This short tail is mainly due to genetic mutation caused by the expression of a recessive gene. Hence, as long as both the parents have bobtails, the kittens born will also have bobtails. They are small domestic cats native to Japan and Southeast Asia. Japanese bobtails generally come in calico color with patches of white, black and red. Van and Mi-ke color patterns are quite common among the purebred cats. They have large and upright ears with broad and round muzzle. Their head forms an equilateral triangle shape with large and oval eyes. They are active, affectionate and generally sweet-tempered. These cats are intelligent, talkative and enjoy supervising household chores and babysitting.

Skookum
The skookum cats are small affectionate cats belonging to the United States. They are hybrid of Munchkins and La Perms, developed with the aim of creating a short-legged cat with a curly coat. They have a broad modified wedge-shaped head with rounded contours and medium large walnut-shaped eyes. Their neck and body are moderate type but thickish with a rounded chest and a good muscular structure. The upper and lower forelegs are approximately even in length and have medium boning. They have a soft light airy texture coat which is closer to their body. Irrespective of their hair length, they have prominent curled whiskers and eyebrows. Skookum cats are playful, fun-loving and fond of jumping and climbing.

Due to their lovable and human-oriented personality, it is easy to teach small cat breeds various tricks. They enjoy learning different things like walking on a harness and lead, and playing fetch. Besides being very cute, they are good companions for human beings.
