Small Bathroom Makeover Ideas
Every morning I get to my bathroom and cringe! I hate the way my bathroom looks, I want to change the walls, the shower, the sink, the accessories, everything! I need, I want, I desire a bathroom makeover…but people tell me "its just a bathroom and a small one at that, so why bother." Why bother you ask? Because every time I enter that bathroom, I want to exit so fast it makes my head spin. Small or not, my bathroom needs a makeover. One of the most important things my bathroom needs is to look bigger. Another problem is that I do not have a great budget for remodeling or makeovers. So I have decided on a DIY small bathroom makeover, these are some of the small bathroom makeover ideas I found.

Color me pretty
Choose the right color for your small bathroom. Remember the general rule, darks make rooms smaller, where as light colors give an illusion of space. So if you have a small bathroom, paint it in some pretty pale color. Select from a wide range of pastels, neutral shades or whites. Light colors not only make a room look open and spacious but also make it look serene.

Brighten up
If you are on a budget, a great way to brighten up any room is to add lights, choose between white light or yellow light. White light will give more brightness where as yellow lights will give a more cozy effect. Save space by attaching ceiling lights or wall mounted lights. If budget isn’t such a big deal, then large windows or skylights make a ‘big’ difference.

Delicacy
Do away with large structures in the bathroom like a vanity cabinet under the sink. This not only takes large space but also makes a room look small. Instead get a pretty and delicate pedestal or wall-mountable sink that allows for more room. But what about storage space you ask? Well make room for small shelf or linen closet in one corner.

Do away with stick outs.
Anything that sticks out, will make the bathroom look small or make it shrink. This is because it cuts into space visually, which makes it look smaller. Substitute with other options other than anything that sticks out.

Mirror mirror on the wall
Mirrors are not only for looking, they make a space appear larger, this is because more light and patterns are reflected with mirrors which makes a room look larger naturally. If possible, cover one whole wall of your bathroom with mirrors, this will automatically and easily make the bathroom look bigger.

What’s on the floor
What is on the floor matters as much as what is on the walls and ceiling. Make sure your flooring coordinates with your walls and ceiling. Make sure your flooring is light colored, again to add to the overall spaciousness of the bathroom. Tiles make for great flooring, but if you cant change the tiles, add large light colored rugs in your bathroom for the same effect.

Do away with clutter
Clutter and mess makes a small room look smaller. So the best thing is to get rid of all that clutter and nick knacks in the bathroom. If you like art on your walls, put one large piece instead of small ones in your bathroom. Use a single accessory in the bathroom instead of many, keep it simple.

Remove visual obstructions
Any and all visual obstructions should be removed. If you have a shower stall with frosted or colored glass, swap it with clear glass. And if possible remove that shower door and use only a shower curtain that can be pulled back when not in use. This makes the room large as there is no visual obstruction.

Light wallpaper
If you don’t want to paint your walls, then choose wallpaper, while selecting wallpaper select a design that is airy and with a color that is light or neutral so as to give appearance of more space.

Deeper than depth
Why not add some depth to your walls with a mural or painting on the largest unused wall. Either paint it yourself, or get a friend to paint it for you. This will be cheaper than putting mirrors if they do not fit in your budget. Another great option is to hang a picture on the wall that would look like the view out of a window, a great way to create a deep illusion.
