Slow Down Before Your Neighbour Points a Gun at You
The world in which we live seems to go by extremely fast but new measures could soon be introduced that means we have to slow down. This article looks at how your neighbor could soon be pointing a gun at you to make sure you cut your speed.
In many parts of the world, reducing speed on roads has resulted in a reduction in accidents. However, many people are yet to be convinced of the benefits of speed cameras which mean that the latest news concerning the use of speed cameras could be a real shock to their system and relationships they have with their neighbors.
In the UK it is understood that speed detection equipment could soon be given to volunteers to help identify people driving at excessive speeds in your community. So whereas you could have once expected to be greeted by a neighbor welcoming you home after a hard day at the office, you could soon be faced with the real prospect of them aiming a speed gun at you as you drive along your street.
And whilst being caught speeding by a volunteer will not necessarily mean an automatic fine, you could be faced with a warning letter followed by a prosecution should you be caught on more than 3 occasions. It is understood that volunteers may also have access to certain police computers so they can check offending vehicles.
Neighborhood Watch Schemes have operated successfully for many years and many people believe them to be extremely effective ways to reduce or certainly control crime in the neighborhood. Therefore should law abiding citizens be unduly concerned about these new proposals? Well, many people will see this as another way in which their civil liberties have been infringed. Others will also be against the idea due to the friction and divides it may cause in their local community.
Speeding in the community and in general has been controlled mainly in recent years through measures such as permanent speed cameras, police controlled hand held speed guns and speed bumps to name but 3. So the question therefore is will this new plan cause more harm than good?
Time will tell if the new plans for volunteers to act as unpaid speed monitors will work or not. However, the next time you are driving time home and you see a neighbor standing by the side of the road pointing a gun at you, you may want to slow down to make sure it is of the speed variety. Then again if it is a normal gun they are pointing at you, will this make you want to speed up?
