Slither With The Serpent

This is a poem of my past and present...
There was a time,
when I thought my wings were gone.
There was a time,
when I thought they were no more.
There was a voice that spoke to me,
saying.....
'Love me and I will return them'.
It was so faint,
it hid under whispers.
There was a touch,
that sent my heart into darkness.
I followed that touch,
I followed that serpent’s tongue.
There was a day...
when my soul finally gave up,
and died.
The voice behind the serpent's,
grew.
It grew to thunder.
I became afraid,
it never left me alone.
I gave into it.

That sane voice said to me...
'I love you'.
I said it back.
My wings grew,
the bones cracked back into place.
Blood ran no more.
A blackened heart...
became bright.
A lifeless soul,
had new life breathed into it.

I fly high...
with my father.
Off the ground,
Never to slither with the serpent again.
