Slit My Skin

I slit my skin today,
I felt the cold, sharp edge
Run across my arm.
The stinging increased
As blood escaped from my veins.
I was scared,
But somehow wanted more.
How much blood will I shed
To keep my heart from bleeding?
The pain was piercing,
My anxiety grew intense,
I stood exasperated
Freaked out and yet relived.
How can I look in the mirror again?
How can I look at you after what I've done?
