How To Slip Stitch Crochet

Materials Required
  • (Size G, H or I) Crochet Hook
  • Worsted Weight Yarn
Instructions When Used Within a Row

Step #1: To start off with this crochet pattern, the basic is to form a slip knot with the yarn on the crochet hook. Then continuing that process, you will have to form a basic chain of about 15 stitches. Carefully count the chains that are starting one beneath your hook. (Note: Never ever count the loop which is on the hook.)

Step #2: Next step, is to start inserting your crochet hook in the 2nd chain. Now with the help of your hook, pull up a loop and pull it through both the loops that are on your crochet hook. So... what did you get?? I hope you got one slip stitch and one remaining loop on your hook!?

Step #3: Starting off with slip stitch is nearly admitting to start off with the style of single crochet stitch. In this third step, you have to insert your crochet hook immediately in the following stitch. (Or in the 2nd chain stitch from your hook). Once you finish doing that, quickly yarn over.

Step #4: After a yarn over, this thing is totally unlike the single crochet stitch. Here instead of just one, tie your yarn through both the loops which are on the hook. So, again, you will be left out with one stitch and one remaining loop on your hook.

Hope I was clear up till here! Now... what comes next?? Crocheting to make a circle! Well, doesn't that sound interesting? Let's read to know about it...

Instructions When Used to Make a Circle

Step #1: To create a ring, you must follow the foundation chain steps in the similar manner. Create 12 stitches of foundation chain. Work on it loosely and neatly.

Step #2: Then, insert your crochet hook in the final chain of your foundation chain and yarn over.

Step #3: Snag a loop and pull it through both the loops which are on your hook. You will notice, one slip stitch is made in the form of a circle and another loop remains back on your hook.

Step #4: Neatly, yarn over and tie your yarn or thread on both the loops on your hook.

(You will have one loop remaining on your hook though.) But check! Your single chain is a circle now.
