Slide
I didn't fall, didn't need a knight. I just slid…
I slid over the ice on Bridget's walk way.
"Whoa! You alright?" her neighbor Matt yelled.
"Fine, Matt," my voice was tired, a try to be polite that didn't work.
Anyone could tell I was trying to slide, the sidewalks near my house were not even slightly smooth.
No way to slide.
He crossed the snowy lawn, and I snapped a hairband on my wrist to keep myself from insulting his annoyingly coiffed and prep school style.
"I kind of wish you did fall," he said.
"Excuse me?"
Wishing that somebody fell was not a conversation starter I was used to.
The snow covered ivy crawling up his family's house was beginning to bother me.
"Then I could pick you up and be your 'knight', "He answered.
"I believe I would be fine, I've gotten up myself before, have been since I was 2."
I walked up the rest of the walk and added a little slide at the end for a demonstration.
I didn't fall, didn't need a knight.
I just slid.
