Slanted Memories

A memory...
I can’t act as if I was better then the rest
Then other people
He said.

For my thoughts are
Only thoughts
They do not hold meaning
But,

In memory-

The way your body cast shadows
On the blank wall

The glean in your blue eyes
That pierced me rooms away

Stolen rubies grace my lips
A reminder. . .

Like the way I thought I saw you standing
There.

The slight slant
Your heels bridging toes

A strong delicate instrument
Of catch and rel e a s e

A constant give and take
Distilled candy between open dripping lips

The tingle as your split ends
Wisped tickles past my nose

Past pictures of the way we were
The way I imagined us . . .
Or perhaps,
Only what was intended to be

Those still immutable nights
When our eyes spoke quiet desperation

We can’t act
Like were better just because. . .

But we buried ourselves in
It.

Unable to break even
