Removing Skin Tags
Usually, skin tags are found to be harmless growths on skin that can be as small as a pinhead or as big as a raisin. These soft masses of flesh are normally wrinkled in nature, but, some of them may have even surfaces. Skin tags, otherwise known as acrochordon, are mostly benign in nature and do not grow beyond a particular size.
As skin tags are more of a cosmetic concern and not a health concern, their removal is not necessary, unless these growths are causing utter discomfort. However, if these growths are affecting your looks or is causing any irritation, then, you may opt for skin tag removal. This can be done in many different ways. Apart from surgical methods used by doctors, there are various home remedies, as well as over-the-counter skin tag removers that are used for this purpose. The following are some of the commonly used skin tag removing methods.
- If you approach a dermatologist for removing skin tags, the common procedures used by them are cryosurgery, electro surgery, ligation or excision. While cryosurgery aims at freezing the skin tag, that falls off within a few days, electro surgery uses high frequency electric current to cut off the growth and cauterize the wound to prevent bleeding. Excision of the skin tag can also be done with scalpel or surgical scissors and is followed by cauterization.
- You may get skin tag removers from local stores or through online order. These products are said to be safe alternatives that can save the exorbitant costs of surgical procedures. Another advantage is that you can use it in the privacy of your home. Such skin tag removal preparations have to be applied on skin tags for a stipulated period, so as to remove these growths. Repeated use is often required to make these products effective.
- Apart from the above said methods, there are certain home remedies that have been used for removing skin tags. This include application of castor oil-baking soda mixture, for three to four times a day, for a week. The skin tags are said to fall off after a few days. You may also use dental floss or sewing thread to tie the stalk of the skin tag tightly. This cuts off the blood flow to these growths, that will fall off eventually.
