Skin Care Myths Exposed
Many companies have put out some odd claims that have altered consumers minds and created false expectations in the skin care industry. Here are some common myths explained, along with my analysis of each myth. I believe with a level playing field, marketing companies and consumers alike will have a better experience.
Here are the most common myths I have read about, with my two cents added below each one.
Myth: You can only have great skin if you buy the best moisturizers and wrinkle-reducing creams on the market.
Analysis: With the right method of cleansing and moisturizing you can have healthy looking skin at any age. You don't have to spend a small fortune on an expensive line of anti aging or skin care creams to make this happen. A solid regimen where your day starts and ends with cleansing and moisturizing is a good routine.
My two cents: The analysis makes the proper point in answering the myth. Although I will add that while this will keep the skin looking great, it doesn't provide any anti aging properties. If you are 30+, you should apply a daily eye serum or eye cream at the very least. As you get older, a wrinkle cream is also a great product to supplement this routine with. You don't have to spend gobs of money, as there are some great systems of products out there on the market.
Myth: Medicines and pills can help me look younger.
Analysis: While there are some great anti aging capsule supplements on the market, the ones out there are merely antioxidant supplements. These are great if you find yourself not getting enough antioxidants in the body. However, they will not work the skin to make it look younger on it's own.
My two cents: To look younger, follow a proper diet plan and exercise routine and couple this with a solid skin care regimen. If you are active, efficient, and eating well, you are well on your way to looking younger. While it's tough to turn back the clock on aging, you can be proactive in the process and staying active is one of the best things you can do to fight the signs of aging. Of course, anti aging capsules and supplements are great if you find yourself eating unhealthy, but if you eat right you don't need them. Consider them an added bonus.
Myth: Wrinkle creams get rid of wrinkles.
Analysis: This is a topic that is misunderstood by many people. Wrinkle creams do NOT get rid of wrinkles. It's impossible to get rid or shed a wrinkle, as many marketing companies say so often. Instead, anti aging wrinkle creams help treat the skin around the wrinkle and treat it in such a manner that makes it invisible. (If it works to expectations.) Am I telling you that you don't need a wrinkle cream? Absolutely not. They are fabulous products that I use myself. However, you need to know what they do, and not have expectations that are out of this world. Wrinkles do not go away, but with an anti aging wrinkle cream you can effectively reduce their appearance drastically. Daily use over a long period of time can really help your appearance. If you don't believe me, look at the various before and after photos around the web on anti aging wrinkle cream sites.
My two cents: I sort of provided that part in the analysis as well. I am all about educating the consumers on these products and creating real expectations for companies that make them. When everyone is on the same page, expectations are in line and everyone is happy.
