Skin Around The Eyes - How To Take Better Care

Beautiful eyes are an asset. But when the skin around the eyes begins to sag and wrinkles begin to appear, the beauty fades away quietly! This is because majority of women neglect the skin area around the eyes. No matter how intricately you line your eyes or apply coats of mascara, no matter how carefully you shade your eyes or how efficiently you remove your eye make up… unless you take care of your eye area, time will take a toll on the beauty!

The skin around our eyes is actually 10 times thinner than the rest of the skin on the face. As we grow old, the collagen levels in our body decreases and the skin loses its elasticity and becomes thinner and thinner. And external factors like sun exposure and environmental conditions further aggravate this process. The silhouette of the eyes is always moving... be it roving your eyes, straining them to watch something distant or blinking them casually. In fact, blinking produces about 10,000 movements in a day alone. Even positive movements like smiling affect the eye area. Also, squinting and straining your eyes too much cause fine lines and crow’s feet to appear on your face.

If you wake up with puffy eyes every morning, there may be several self-inflicting things you may have done on the delicate eye area. Here are some of the potential reasons who can further intensify the state:
  • Intake of salty foods
  • Internal dehydration
  • Rubbing of eyes after crying
  • Rough rubbing for eye make-up removal
  • Removing contact lenses etc.
Actually the elasticity of the skin can be compared to that of a rubber band. Just like a rubber band loses it elasticity in due course of time by constant pulling and stretching, the skin goes through the same routine. The tissues around the eyes have few oil glands and so the moisture levels are low as compared to other parts of the body.

For you to be able to take good care of the skin around your eyes, it is important that you know about the anatomy of the area in addition to the skin cell renewal process. As fragile is the skin around the eyes, so delicate should you care for it. Being thinner than other areas, this is where you can spot the very first signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet. So, it demands extra care and nourishment. Thus, it is very important that you maintain extra caution while buying eye creams or skin care products. The eye products should be gentle and contain non-irritating substances. Also look out for products that supplement vitamins, antioxidants and other skin plumping agents that work to induce collagen and lessen the wrinkles.

AHAs or alpha hydroxyl acids are great skin exfoliates. AHAs are basically a group of natural substances found in fruits, sugar cane and milk that loosen the outer cells of the dead skin and thus scrape them off. It also helps prevent build up of corneocytes. Thus the epidermis becomes smoother and no fine lines appear on the skin surface.

Choose an eye cream that firms up the skin and provides necessary hydration to the delicate skin around the eyes. LUMIERE Bio-restorative Eye Cream is a hot pick this season. It contains PSP that works real good for aged and stressed skin around your eyes. You can also go for Obagi ELASTIderm Night Eye Cream that helps to improve elasticity of the skin so that you get firmer, more youthful-looking skin. It gently works at night when your body naturally repairs and you can see a visible reduction in the fine lines and wrinkles on your face.
