The most preliminary part of most interviews is a job application. When you enter the company, one person from the recruiting department, hands you a form known as job application. What is a job application? A job application is like a questionnaire, made by the company. In this job application, the company asks you questions about yourself which they want to know more about. Contrast this with a resume, where you write about what you want the company to know about you.

It may sound like a drab questionnaire, where the employer gets to drill you without actually talking to you face to face. But if look at it from a more positive angle, a job application provides the employment candidate, a good opportunity to leave a good impression on those who consider this application. One of the most crucial sections of this application is the 'skills' section. The 'special skills' section is specifically included by most companies not only to know what the employee brings on board, but also to get a feel of what the employee is like. Stating relevant skills to add on a job application, will work in your favor and help you achieve even the highest paying jobs. And that's exactly what they are looking for in the job application form - your enthusiasm, willingness and overall mentality regarding the post you're applying for. Your actual job qualifications come into picture at a rather later stage, during the personal interview and any tests if they have them.

This section on the job application is the jackpot section for an employee. Because at the end of the day, all your qualifications and marks are historical data, while the skills which you intend to bring on board to the company are present and future details, which the management are more concerned of. Hence, it is essential that you equip yourself with the required skills, in order to put on a job application and talk about them in your interview.

Due to the global nature of businesses today, it is essential that a prospective employee knows how to fluently converse in a language apart from English. Today your customers or suppliers may be in any part of the world, hence foreign language is an important skill to write on resume. Chinese language is one of the most marketable languages you can learn, as much of the work could be with the Chinese companies or franchise.

Computer Skills
And last but not the least, one of the very important skills is the computer skills. Companies are looking for people who are computer literate, and hence its essential that a prospective employee has the necessary computer skills, be it MS Office or managing databases (DBMS).

There may be some skills which are relevant to the nature of job you might apply for. Some of them which could also be included in the resume are flexibility and an ability to work on numerical data.
