Ski Trip 5!

Continued of the ski series...
"Yeah." Finally we were up next in line for the lift up to the top. We sat on it and started the journey to the top.
"This is really awkward." he finally admitted.
"Yeah." I laughed.
"I really wish things would’ve been better for us this past Summer, Sam. I really do, ya know? It just- I don’t think it would’ve worked."
My heart sank, but I didn’t let it show. "Yeah. You’re right. Friends?"
"Friends." We gave each other a hug the best we could since we were next to each other and our turn was coming up to get off.
Once we were safely on the snow above God and everybody, Seth and I said good-bye to one another. I was about to push off when some guy said "I wouldn’t do that if I were you." I took off my goggles and turned around to see a decent-looking guy about 5’ 11". He was tan, so I guess that he must live somewhere near the beach. He had a nice build, and had baby blue eyes.
"And why not? This is a perfectly good ski hill."
"Not to that guy." he pointed to some guy that was getting lifted up onto a stretcher. "I just saw him wipe out. Poor thing, he got it good. Anyway, they closed this hill for a little bit ‘til they get him off of the hill. Hence all of the people standing around you." he smiled. I looked around and sure enough, nobody else was going down the hill.
"Oh." I laughed feeling stupid. I looked at the hill next to ours. People were skiing down happily. It was the hill that Seth had gone up to. I thought I saw him whiz by, but maybe that was someone else.
"What’s your name?" he asked, coming closer.
"Sam. And yours?"
"I’m Shane. Where are you staying on this vacation and with whom, if you don’t mind my asking?"
"I’m staying at the lodge with my brother, my best friend, my best friend’s boyfriend, and my brother’s best friend."
"Wow. That’s a lot of people. Do you name them off like that every time you introduce them to someone?" Ugh. This guy was really getting on my nerves. Didn’t he have someone else to bother?
"No. If I’m talking to someone who knows their names, then I say the names. But if you must know…Danny, Seth, Trent, Parvati, and myself." I said, still annoyed.
"Cool. Oh, look. The guy’s off the hill." And with that, he brought his goggles down over his eyes and took off.

* * *

When I had about 2 or 3 runs under my belt, I called it quits, got my stuff out of the locker and headed home. As I was coming in, Trent was heading out with his snowboard.
"Hey. Get a couple of runs in?"
"Yeah, during the rush. You might be able to get more in since people are heading home now."
"Cool, I’ll see you at dinner. We are meeting at the restaurant down the road at seven."
"Awesome. Have fun." I watched him leave and went to see if anyone else was home. I knew Seth was still out because his wallet and stuff was in the locker when I got my stuff out. He better not stay out too much longer cause he’ll get frostbite. I saw a note from Parvati explaining that she and Danny had gone to the indoor hot tub. I laughed to myself and got undressed and curled up under a blanket in front of the fire.
I was woken up with a phone call. "Hello?" I answered groggily.
"Sam? It’s Seth, you better get down here." I sat up, alert.
"What? Down where?"
"The first-aid station. Trent had an accident. They think he broke his wrist."
