Sizzle and Smoke with Smoky eyes…
Do you want eyes like Angelina Jolie? The trick is smoky eyes; here is how to get smoky eyes…
Yes, smoky eyes are all the rage, but make sure you have the right technique or you’ll just end up looking gothic or like a raccoon, and I am sure these are both looks you want to avoid. The trick in getting beautiful and seductive smoky eyes is in the right blending technique.
Items you will need:
- Two eye shadows, one light and one dark.
- Eyeliner.
- Make up brushes.
- Eye primer.
- Mascara.
- Prepare the eyelid – start with an eye primer or a base and evenly blend it into the whole lid. This will help in making the eye shadow last longer and will prevent it from spreading.
- Apply the eyeliner – select the eyeliner according to your skin tone and your eye shadow. The best eyeliner shades for smoky eyes are black, brown or gray. Apply the eyeliner on the upper lid, close to the lash line and make it thick. Line the lower lid as well, but slightly thinner.
- Blend the eyeliner – use a sponge eye shadow applicator and smudge the eyeliner, upper as well as lower. Use a bit of black or gray eye shadow and smudge, it give a better smoky look.
- Base color – for the eyes to look truly smoky, they have to have some kind of light base, which allows for the contrast of smoky eyes to be more striking. Use a cream or beige eye shadow and sweep into the eyelid and into the brow bone.
- Dark shadow blending – now comes the time to apply the darker eye shadow, choose from black, gray, dark brown, dark purple or eye dark green. Apply using an eye shadow brush and blend in from the lash line till the crease.
- Correct – go over your eye make up and see if you can spot some errors, is the eyeliner thicker in one eye? Or is the eye shadow darker in one? Correct mistakes using a q-tip.
- Mascara – for best results, use a volume enhancing mascara that makes your eyes look bigger and makes them open up at the same time.
- Remember that smoky eyes are good for a night look, it cannot be used during the day. You will end up looking ghastly or over the top if done during the day.
- While you are making your eyes dark and smoky, remember to keep the rest of your face neutral. Keep the cheeks a soft pink and lips nude with just a tinge of gloss. Dark eyes, with dark lips just do not work.
- If you want to go in for a little funky look then try using colored mascara like a purple or blue.
- If you do not know how to use eyeliner, the best trick is to use a black or dark brown eye shadow as eyeliner. Just use an eyeliner brush, wet it, dip in eye shadow and apply close to the lash line.
