Sizing up your room - Extra long beds

We've all needed to shop for a new bed at one time or another. You'll find twin, full, queen even king beds. What if the width of these beds are prefect but you need something longer for that tough to fit room. The answer is extra long beds.
Most of us are familiar with the standard bed sizes available in the market place today. You’ve got twin size (39"x75"), full size (54"x75"), queen size (60"x80") and king size (76"x80"). We’re all pretty used to these standard sizes and in most cases these sizes work well for the majority of people who own these beds. What happens though if you just can’t accommodate these sizes or need more length to a bed but need to keep the width the same? The solution is called extra long beds.

Extra long beds have existed for some time but are not a part of the mainstream bedding industry. You’ll find quite a few mattress manufacturers who make these sizes but bed frame manufacturers are a little tougher to find. Why should you be interested in these sizes though? Quite simply these sizes are made to be longer than their standard counter parts which means you can have a longer bed but not take much more space in the room than you already do. Let’s take a look at some of these sizes.

Twin extra long beds or Twin XL as it is also referred to provides the same width as a standard twin size bed but offers 80" of length. This means taller individuals can sleep on these beds and if the room is small can keep the existing width of a standard twin bed which most likely fit perfectly in the space before. The twin xl size (39"x80") gives you the length of as queen bed but without the longer width a queen.

Full extra long beds or Full XL is another size similar to the twin xl bed in that it provides the same width as a standard full size bed but offers that 80" length. Full xl beds lend themselves better to couples than twin xl beds which are more suited for individuals due to the limited size in width. The full xl size (54"x80") again gives you that queen bed length but is less wide allowing it to fit into more spaces easily.

California king beds or Cal king as they are also referred to often get overlooked as an extra long bed option. While they are less wide than a standard king bed they are longer at 85" of length making it one of the longest beds available in the market place. Cal king size (72"x85") beds offer length enough to accommodate 7’ tall individuals and with the reduces width of the bed allows it to sleep two people comfortably much like a standard queen or king size bed.
