Sinus wash as the name suggests is the process of cleansing the sinus. Also known as sinus irrigation, sinus rinse or nasal irrigation, this is a natural and practical method that helps relieve the symptoms of hay fever and allergy. This procedure cleans the passage of the nose where the dust particles accumulate washing them away and can provide rapid relief from symptoms caused by allergens like pollen and dust particles. Along with this a sinus wash also helps stimulate the cilia movement and healthy secretions by keeping the mucosa moist and trapping other unwanted particles like allergens, bacteria and dirt.

How to Use Sinus Wash Products

There are many different irrigation products available and each has slightly different methods on how to use them effectively. Here are some guidelines that can help but please ensure that you have read all the instructions provided by the manufacturers very carefully and do not do anything they have advised again.

The best way to use a nasal irrigation product is to bend forward over a sink and lower the head and tilting it slightly to the left in a manner that the left nostril is pointed down towards the sink. Apply the irrigation bottle or the tip firmly against the right nostril. Remember not to insert anything into your nose and also to keep your mouth open and breathe through the entire process. Begin the irrigation process. The sinus drain solution should drain out of your left nostril and should not be allowed to go down your throat. Stop the procedure and let all the remaining solution drain from your nose. Now, gently blow your nose to clear out any remaining solution. Do not blow to hard as it could force the solution towards your ears. The entire process has to be repeated for the other nostril,

Sinus Wash Solutions – Home Remedies

I would like to stress at the very beginning that I have not tried these remedies myself. Rather, I have gathered them from the internet. I would suggest that you talk to your health care provider before using these remedies. Alternatively, if you are confident that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients then you could try a little of the solution to wash the sinus and see if it suits you. Ensure that you are not alone at home when you are trying this remedy for the first time.
    Baking Soda Solution
  • Mix 8 ounces of distilled water with a quarter teaspoon of salt, a quarter teaspoon of baking soda and one teaspoon of glycerin.
  • Shake well in a jar and rinse your sinus using a bulb syringe and the method described above.
  • If this remedy works for you, then you can use it up to four times a day for better results.
    Walnut Solution
  • Mix 1 dropper of alcohol free black walnut with 1 dropper alcohol free Pau De Arc along with a couple of drops of tea tree oil and a teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water.
  • Shake well in a jar and rinse your sinus using a bulb syringe and the method described above.
  • If this remedy works for you, then you can use it up to four times a day for better results.
