Single Female Blues on Valentine's Day - Part 2
In Part I of Single Female Blues on Valentine’s Day, I wrote about two things you could do to make this upcoming Valentine’s Day a day worthy of your personal memorabilia. In this, Part II of the Single Female Blues on Valentine’s Day article, I will introduce four new ways to make this upcoming Valentine’s Day a unique and memorable one:
1) Play Matchmaker for an Evening
If you have a single female friend and you know that a certain single male is interested in your friend but is playing hard to get, then let him know you want to set them up on a double Valentine’s Day date (you will have to find a casual date too). Make the date a combination of adventure and relaxation. Relaxation feels even better when you have worked hard to earn it!
For instance, go on a winter hike, or take ice skating lessons. Go to a park and build a snow fort and then color it with food coloring (mix the coloring with water and apply it with spray bottles). Go snow-shoeing or cross country skiing and then go somewhere where you can relax by the fire, play a game, eat hot food and watch a great movie. Even if your single female friend and her date don’t end up in a serious relationship, you can still have a great time and make some great memories.
2) The Iron Single Female?
If you have seen the Food Network’s "The Iron Chef," then you have a great activity idea for you and your single female friends. First, select a secret ingredient that none of your single female friends will be aware of. You could choose an ingredient that reminds you of Valentine’s Day (e.g. cinnamon gummy bears, chocolate, white chocolate, strawberries, etc.). Then, divide your single female friends into several groups (probably about 4-6 people per team) and reveal the secret ingredient. Then, give them 2 hours to raid the nearest grocery store with their group and return to a central location to make a dessert that they think would portray the delectable qualities of the secret ingredient. After the desserts are complete, let your single female friends display their wares on a table. If you like, decorate the table with a red or a pink tablecloth and then let everyone vote on which dessert they think has the best presentation, the best flavor, the best representation of the secret ingredient, etc. Just as a warning, you might want to have a really delicious and aesthetic dessert waiting for your single female friends as some of the Iron Single Female desserts might not turn out as expected!
3) Fondue Party
One piece of content that I found online says in regards to fondue: "Few foods are more fun……." It’s true. Fondue is fun and yet there is something sophisticated and romantic about fondue. Not necessarily romantic in the "boy meets girl" kind of way, but romantic in nature and candlelight sort of way. For Valentine’s Day this year, you could plan a fondue dinner that your single female friends will talk about for years to come.
To start preparing for the party, purchase some reasonably priced fondue pots and fondue sticks or borrow some from a friend. Have some of your friends bring exotic breads, fruit, veggies or meat and have some of your other friends bring melted cheeses, broth or chocolate for dipping. Also, reserve one pot with sticks that have a heart stuck to the end of it. (I found part of the inspiration for this idea in another good online content item) When your friends arrive have them write their favorite dessert, the craziest thing they have ever done, their favorite play and their favorite way to relax on the heart paper. Then, as you taste test during the fondue fete (I highly recommend that you sit on the floor with some Indian style pillows as you eat) you can read each other’s hearts and guess whose is whose. You can then award a Valentine’s Day prize to the guest who matches the most hearts with their corresponding guests. You could also pass out papers that have words that can act as "starter-topics." For instance, you could write down words like, "Hillary Clinton, yoga, New Zealand, economics, Dr. Phil, the university and any other words or phrases. Then allow each friend to pick a word and start a conversation using that word, or discussing a topic that is related to that word. You might find that you will end up having a lot of funny conversations during this little activity and thoroughly enjoying a night with your single female friends.
4) The Valentine’s Day Homemade Movie
One of my favorite Valentine’s Day activities would be to get a bunch of single female friends together (if you are the humorous types) and make a video that is designed to seem like a talk show or a documentary about Valentine’s Day and the ways that various single females seem to react to being single on Valentine’s Day. You could also ask your single female friends what the history of Valentine’s Day is and have them offer some facetious answers. If you and your girls like the results, you could post them on YouTube. Who knows? Maybe some great guys would find the video and take you out for Valentine’s Day next year!
