Singing Well: Foods and Exercises that Help in Singing Well

The voice of a singer is his or her treasure. Like a treasure, it needs protecting and nurturing. A singer must know which food and exercises to avoid in order to maintain the fluidity and dynamics of his or her voice.
Your voice is a tool that is precious and needs to be maintained. After all without your voice you can never be a singer. Therefore the way you maintain your voice determines your level of success as a singer. Fortunate enough, there are exercises you can do to keep your voice fresh and smooth in all seasons and weather. The various exercises and diet is what we are going to discuss in this article.

Exercises That Help Your Voice: There are exercises that you must do as a singer that will rejuvenate your voice. The first one that comes to mind is regular abdominal exercises which strengthens the core muscles. Lung plays important role in breathing, therefore to improve its capacity cardie-vascular exercises are essential. Yoga exercises are highly recommended to improve your posture, since how you position yourself affects the way your voice sounds in the long run.

Healthy and Poisonous Food For Singers: A singer does not take any food that passes bye. This is because there are some food items that destroys the voice so fast just as petrol helps ignition. For a start, only a suicidal singer will eat chocolate, fatty food and citrus fruits before singing.

The main reason is that a singer must stay light before singing and this types of food are heavy. Another reason is that they hinder vibration process through mucous secretion on the vocal cords. Excessive phlegm is another trade mark of this types of food which causes clogs in the throat thereby forcing the singer to clear his or her throat.

What to Drink and Avoid: Just as water is important to life sustenance, so it is to the career life of a singer. Water in its purest form is what we are talking of here, not diluted water like tea, juice or any of variations. The reason is that the body of a singer needs to be kept moisture and lubricated. Water does this to the body and especially the vocal cords.

Lack of lubrication on the other hands can make your vocal cords to swell, redden and nodes forming on them.

Therefore, as a singer water should be your best companion. You should consume at least a gallon a day. You will do well to avoid beverages in its entirety for the simple reason that they contain additives like caffeine. Caffeine as you might know promotes dehydration. Dehydration, needless to say is an enemy of a singer.

Sugar is an enemy to a singer as it causes production of excessive mucous and citric acid that aids phlegm. Milk is also an agent of phlegm, so it should also be avoided. No singer should really drink alcohol, because it is a double enemy - It quickly produces dehydration apart from sedative effects it causes.

In order to sing well, nothing too hot or too cold should be taken. This is because heat causes vessels in the head, neck and throat to swell, whereas too much cold causes blood vessels to constrict and the tissues to dry up. Best solution? - Drink cool or lukewarm drinks.

Do you love steam bath? If you want to sing well, you must learn to do without it. This is because they cause you to sweat, drying out your body and your vocal cords as a result. The best alternative is any type of bath that allows water droplets to come in contact directly with vocal cords, this helps in moisturizing the tissues.

Medical Remedies: Although there are medicinal sprays or lozenge for voice with problems as they sooth the membranes in the throat. But these are not recommended because although they do cure the damages to the voice, they in themselves do not improve the qualities of your voice. Neither do they bring back the original qualities your voice had before the damage. So prevention is far better than cure. Adhering to these principles will therefore accelerate your ability to sing well.

So start planning to drink plenty water, even carrying a bottle along as you go. Start cutting on dairy food intakes. Start small, then grow and before you know you will be able to sing well.

If you know you have talent for singing, or just love singing, then you better hurry and take action by getting to a resource that can help you in singing well composing your own songs.
