Simply to Feel
A few musings on my opinions on the meaning of life.
What people don't realize, and will waste their lives because of this natural blindness, is that nothing matters. Life, in itself, is pointless. A great, now long dead comedian and social critic once said that "life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves", and this is exactly the point; nothing has any meaning besides the feelings that we experience on this, our relatively short stint on the ride we call life. You see, I never understood why people could live solely on at base, ground zero, how they could go through their lives without knowing the limits of what the human mind can feel. It is an incredibly beautiful and powerful thing, the human mind; the possibilities of what it can experience are basically limitless. There is a huge difference between living and existing, something that is never truly understood until one has been on the other side; when you have felt the things I have felt, when you have seen the things my mind has shown me, only then would you truly understand the meaning of my words.
Life is a truly beautiful thing, but do you really think that in one hundred, one thousand years anyone will remember you, that you will have had any impact on this plant as a whole? You could be remembered within our society perhaps a paper thin celebrity figure; you could become well renounced within humanity at your time and perhaps a little after, but do you think the world, the universe will stop and stare at your achievements? If you think it will, then you are simply naïve. The human race happened by accident; I do not believe in an intelligent creator but I do not judge those who do and who are willing to accept other possibilities and who equally do not judge those who disagree with them. Unfortunately human nature has made this a pretty niche group. Humanity happened, and humanity will die out just as every other form of life ever to exist did before and will do after us.
Nothing in life matters, nothing except the moment, feeling elation, love, ecstasy, purity and for just one second, perfection. I often say to people who do not share my beliefs on drugs and life as a whole with the following analogy- 'I will happily go to the lowest of canyons if it means that I can reach the highest of peaks'. The possibility of reaching plus ten on the emotional scale is more than enough incentive to experiment with what your mind can achieve, and people who know the truth about life will agree that the ensuing minus ten is not even nearly a deterrent from doing so. Religion is another thing that gets in the way of living. Personally, I believe in god, not that he created the world and humankind as we see it, science has ruled this as impossible, but I believe in a god that watches over us and tries to make us live our lives as best as the individual sees fit.
But this is my personal choice, just as everything else; drugs, cigarettes, and how we spend our existence, and nobody, government, parent, friend, enemy or religious leader has the right to tell you how to live your life. What religious people forget above all else, is that the whole point of organized religion is to live your life the best you can, and to forgive the 'sins' you see around you and in others to ensure your own safe passage to the afterlife. When, or if Jesus comes back he is going to be both disappointed and sad; human kind got the wrong idea. What is the purpose of segregation; catholic, protestant, Jew or Muslim, we are all going to die just the same. People behave weirdly when it comes to death, and yet this is the one thing in life that is certain to happen. Everyone dies, not everyone lives. I have grown up with death, and instead of mourning the loss of a life I now instead celebrate the passing of a loved one who's time on this ride has drawn to a close. I am not afraid of death; I don't want to die, but when it happens I shall not be either afraid or disappointed.
Unless I die in a compromising or embarrassing situation, in which case I will enter heaven with an overwhelming sense of natural self-deprecation. As humans we waste so much time trying to escape, to fantasize about what happens after we are gone, images of the afterlife have always been prevalent in organized and unorganized civilization. It seems that this fear of death is no new thing. We try to find the answer to what happens to the individual when they leave this mortal plane, but we neglect to admire and take in the beauty that god or whatever you believe put here for us. Forests, mountains, the ocean, rain, storms, hot summer days with close friends, warm nights in with those you love. These things are free and about as perfect as moments can get without extensive mind expansion. I suggest you take in everything in your surroundings before you start to look further afield. Individuality is interesting; we have the phrase 'one in a million' ingrained into every single person, but in reality there is no such thing as individuality.
Most people naturally put their own sense of self before their sense of other, but the ones who take this ride of life for its true potential know that if everyone looked after others and not themselves, then everyone would be looked after. It's just a ride, none of this before you matters to anyone except you and those dear to your heart. The only thing more beautiful than a perfect moment is a perfect moment shared with those around you, hugging friends when you all know what song is coming next, a tear of happiness playing on the very edge of your eye at the instant you realize that this is it, you have found the meaning of life, and it is simply to feel. Look after your fellow mankind, and they will look after you. As I said, 'I am one in a million'. And there are 6,000 people just like me, and I for one intend to find as many of them as I can.
