Simple Decorations for a Great Baby Shower!

Decorating for a baby shower can be a lot of fun. By first choosing a theme for the shower and then letting your imagination run wild, you’ll be able to create a cute atmosphere to favorably impress both your friends and the guest of honor while welcoming the new little one into the world. Making this type of effort will let the new mother know just how much you care, and everyone will be able to see the effort you’ve put into ensuring that they all have a great time.

Although pastels of pink, green, blue, and yellow are traditional colors for baby showers, they are no longer the only colors used. At most of today’s showers you’ll find brighter colors or those that are the current trends. There are no restrictions any longer, so feel free to use bright purples, greens, and reds if that’s where your theme takes you.

The decorations for your shower don’t have to be elaborate, and if you add some practical items to the décor you’ll be able to both create a cute theme and give out the decorations as party favors or gifts. For example, you can use jars of baby food as anchors for helium balloons. After the shower, the mother-to-be can take the food home to be used later. You may want to add a number of sweet-smelling candles to create an ambiance and then send them home with guests as favors. If your shower is to be held near the Christmas holidays, you can try building a diaper tree and decorating it with small, useful items such as baby wipes, pacifiers, and booties.

Another really cute idea is to decorate with a clothesline of baby gifts. Attach one end of the clothesline to the chair where the mommy-to-be will be sitting and the other end to something sturdy across the room. Buy a bag of bright clothespins, and hang such necessary items as baby blankets, booties, bibs, clothing, and hooded towels. You can invite your guests to bring additional items to help fill the clothesline with practical items your guest of honor will be sure to appreciate.

To display the gifts at your shower, set up a bright umbrella on one end of the gift table or hang it above the table, and decorate it with streamers and balloons. You also might use a baby’s bassinet draped with inexpensive tulle. Allow the fabric to fall in lush cascades around the bassinet and onto the floor. Then you can fill the bassinet with gifts and place the overflow on the floor around it. If you don’t happen to have access to a bassinet, use one of the larger gifts as your centerpiece. Guests will be blown-away by this display, and it will make a great photo to add to the infant’s baby book.

If you’d prefer a centerpiece which is edible, you might try carving a watermelon to look like a baby carriage. To do this, you need to start with the watermelon lying lengthwise on a solid surface. Cut off the top quarter of the melon, and then scoop out the fruit inside. Carve a decorative edge around the top, and decorate the "carriage" with ribbons and lace to add a dainty, frilly look. Then you can refill the watermelon with a variety of fresh fruits. How cute will this be!

One good rule of thumb when planning baby shower decorations is to keep them simple. Inviting some of the guests over the night before the event to help you decorate will make your guests feel like they’re a real part of the festivities and take some of the work off you. These tips will also help free up your time the day of the shower and prevent you from feeling too stressed out. You’ll undoubtedly end up having just as good a time as your guests do.
