Melissa Rose Thomson is a rebel from Riverside, living her life. But her perfect life doesn't stay perfect for long.
I don’t think I’ve ever had such a big headache in my life. Ever. When I woke up that morning, in my short blue dress, my head was spinning, and my sight was blurry. I didn’t even have a clue where I was. All I knew, was that I was in a house, that wasn’t my own.

"Morning!" Said a cheerful voice. I groaned, and dragged my head off a couch pillow.

"…Where am I?" I groaned.
"You’re on the Riverside Campus." Said the voice, and when I followed the voice, it led to a girl, older than me, with ketchup red hair. "You couldn’t even walk, you were so drunk, so I said you could stay on my couch for the night."

"What time is it?" I asked, sitting up quickly.
"8:30." Replied the girl.

"Crap!" I shouted, jumping off of the couch, grabbing my purse and sprinting for the door. My mom had told me I could go out with friends, if I were back by midnight. I was 9 and a half hours past my curfew! I could see the gravestone now, with my name on it, because my mom will kill me!

The girl blinked at me.
"Thanks for your help!" I called, shooting out the door. Then I turned around and ran back in. "I love your hair, by the way!"
"Thanks!" She laughed.
Then, I left.

I didn’t have any shoes on whatsoever, but I didn’t have time to go back now. I ran down all three flights of stairs, which brought me out onto Iowa Avenue, meaning I was still on the campus. How I’d even ended up at Riverside University was beyond me, but at this point, I couldn’t afford to think. I just had to try to get back before my mom stopped my allowance. So I wouldn’t have to live on the streets like a tramp, living in a shop doorway and begging for money to pay for my clothes.

I ran down Iowa Avenue, barefooted, dodging the litter, and the students and the rocks that were all over the side-walk. I was really an idiot trying to run four miles with no shoes on, but it was worth a shot right? I hadn’t even reached the end of the avenue, when I was nearly dying, and I was pretty sure I had a stone stuck in my left toe. I ran past a parked car, then ran backwards towards it.

"Hey Wayne, can you give me a lift?" I asked, as Wayne rolled down his window.
"Fine." Wayne sighed. Wayne went to Riverside University, but I knew him because he was my best friend Becky’s brother.

"Yey!" I said, jumping into the car. "Drive fast, my mom’s going to murder me. With an ax. Then throw me off a building."
"Right." sighed Wayne.
He managed to get me to Sycamore Drive within 15 minutes.
"Thanks Wayne, I owe you." I grinned through the window once I had got out.
"Any time Lissi." Wayne replied.

I turned around, and slowly walked up the path. Good, my mom’s bedroom curtains were closed, that was a good sign. I sighed with relief, and used my key to unlock the door. Then I quietly closed it behind me, and walked across my silent house. I had just gone up two steps on the stairs, when my mother’s voice boomed across the hall.

"Melissa Rose Thomson, where the hell have you been?!" She screamed. Crap - she middle named me! I sighed, closed my eyes, and slowly turned around. "I told you, I stayed over at Becky’s last night!" I lied.

"And I told you to be back at midnight! No phone call or text message to tell me where you were!" She screamed.
"I phoned you!" I lied again.
"And now you’re lying!" She said, flapping her arms. "Melissa, this is four days in a row!"

"I know mom, but I went to Becky’s. It’s not like I woke up and found myself on Riverside campus or anything!"
"What?" She asked, shaking her head. "Anyway, this is your last chance."

I nodded and walked past my mom on the stairs, up to my room. It’s true. This is the fourth time this week that I have come home the next morning. The first time, I went to Chris Alton’s house party, the second time, I did actually go to Becky’s, the third time I went to Chris Alton’s second house party (yeah, he has a lot of parties), and I’m not quite sure why I was out last night, but I’ll figure that out. I get really bored during breaks from school - basically I have two choices: Go out, or stay in with my mother. What a hard decision to make, not.

Note

From the author of 'My Boss's Son'! Hopefully this story will be better than the last. I ran out of ideas last time, so brought the story to a quick end! This might be the same as the last story in some ways, but better!
