Silent Tears - 4
It is a short chapter but reveals a bit about Fanaa:)
CHAPTER 4:
Fanaa tiptoed across the hall and towards her mother's room.
There was no sound... yet she knew what that young Fanaa was experiencing, the worst night of her life. The night which led to her noiseless future.
Her mother's room was five feet away when she felt another presence.... To hell with it, she had seen 'Grudge' a day before and it scared the shit out of her. She was half expecting a ghastly white face to come up from the darkness and consume her but nothing of that sort happened. In spite of her now racing heartbeat she could very well feel that someone was watching her. That someone was there with her, in the empty living hall... someone other than her parents.
A masked face, a tall man towered over her, with a gun in hand... she heard screams and then there was blood. Her blood which dribbled uncontrollably from her heart. She continued hearing the screams long after the darkness came for her. And continued haunting her till she slept in the post operative ward... they'd saved her. She was going to be just fine, though a bit of counseling could be required, depending on how she would take the incident.
When Fanaa opened her eyes she didn't feel like talking, cause no one was talking to her. After a few moments of looking at her confused parents and a shocked doctor, she found herself being wheeled into another room. A lady doctor examined her ears again and again. She was shaking her head from side to side. 'Why the hell doesn't anyone explain to me what's going on... with me?' she thought. Her mother squeezed her shoulder as they settled down in front of the doctor. Who was scribbling furiously in a note pad. What she saw in the notepad was the most unexpected thing she could take- it said:
Sorry Fanaa... You have permanently lost the ability to perceive sound. Do not worry we'll work on it. Please stay calm. We'll help you....
Her mother had been yelling for the past half an hour and Fanaa hadn't heard a word. She didn't hear a single word. Ever again. But even at that moment, the first feeling that washed over her after the sorrow was- good thing the doctor was direct... thank you.
She had some bad experiences at school. Depression. Denial. Refusal to see a speech therapist. And the least of it came from a group of classmates. They hung a notepad on a string and left in hanging by her desk. She got weird looks from some people. But most of them were really good and kind and sigh, sympathetic. She didn't want this disability to become a gate for others to enter her life. She didn't want it to become her weakness. But over time it did become her weakness.... She left her school not leaving any contacts with anyone and moved on to a new place. There she found some others like her. And then she met Aryana. She was a year older to her. Aryana had lost her hearing completely after a severe infection. Not because of the disease. But because of the drugs she had taken to treat it. Over a period of a few months, Aryana and Fanaa became real good buddies. Mostly cause Aryana was attempting to get Fanaa to open up and mingle... socialize with people. Three years later, Fanaa could und without using a notepad and some were even beginning to doubt her disability. She was not hiding her disability only trying to fight it. Using it as her weakness and strength. Because when your weakness becomes your strength, half your goal is already approached....
Fanaa had awakened an hour ago... the usual nightmare had disturbed her sleep. Her life had two tragedies- one of them was the loss of her hearing. She wanted to live the way she had that afternoon... with Alian. He was really frank and nice and so sweet....
'Am I getting attracted to him because of his star status?' thought Fanaa. But there was something else... something that had a meaning deeper than simple attraction. She was afraid to voice that feeling. It would be wrong and too much of a dream to even think on those beaten tracks. Thousands and thousands of females might have thought of him... as an object of affection. But still somewhere in her heart she felt that the relation she was forming with him was different in some aspects... some ways. Like the way he talked- be it the first time or the fifth. By messages or face to face. While his life was music, hers was totally devoid of it. But did it matter. Didn't it? But then he wouldn't have connected so well with her in the first place. He wouldn't have agreed to come over to her house on the second day of their introduction to each other. She was certainly not a fan of his considering that she had never heard him sing or even cared enough to think of his gift as a singer. She wanted to search the lyrics but then there had been no time... she felt lost... desolate. Happy memories.... Happy memories.... She reminded herself to think of all things happy. All things she wanted. All things that could drive away the maddening despondence. Just one train of thought was needed. Just one happy memory and all her sadness would turn to dust. Just one... Alian. The afternoon she had spent with him.

Hey folks I'm really sorry for the short chapter but I had to this as a separate chapter and I wanted Fanaa to have some sort of a base as a character. PLEASE COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Lyss for your comment as well as the name of the song.
