Giving the shoulders a rest for two to three days by not moving it too much and then slowly easing it with regular exercises is one of the best treatments.
Shoulder Exercises
After restricting the movement of the shoulders for two-three days, it is advisable to start with some shoulder exercises. Your therapist can guide you on the type of exercises for shoulder pain that you can perform to ease the pain. Many people try not to use the shoulder muscles at all when they are suffering from severe shoulder pain. But doing this is counter productive as it weakens the muscles of the shoulders making it more prone to surgery.

Applying ice to the affected area, is one of the best way to treat shoulder pain. But do not apply ice directly to the skin of your shoulders. Place the ice in a plastic bag, and secure the mouth of the bag with an elastic band. Wrap the bag with a medium-sized towel, and then apply to the shoulders for 10 to 15 minutes every hour.
