Should I Contact My Ex?
The question of whether or not to contact your ex after your break up. Understand what is the best way to go to ensure your ex will come back to you.
Immediately after a break up you might be wondering if you should contact your ex. It might be painful right now and your first instinct is to talk and reason with them, but right now you need to play it cool and try to get your head on straight. A break up is generally a sign the relationship has not been going well for some time, this is exactly why you NEED a break from one another.
Take this time to cool down, clear your thoughts and consider the relationship from a different perspective. It is a good idea to let your ex do the same and perhaps allow both of you to reconsider where this relationship is headed and what you both want.
If you are certain the break up was a mistake and want to get your ex back. It’s not too late, however taking some time off is still very much recommended. Trying to convince your ex back too soon won’t do you any good and it’s better to let them slowly come to the conclusion on their own then to force the idea on them.
The toughest thing for you to deal with is allowing absolute no contact. This means don’t leave phone messages, short emails, e-cards, msn messages or txt messages. This will be difficult at first but that’s why it’s recommended to keep yourself busy. You might be worrying that your ex might move on too quickly, but the truth is the more you try to keep them, the more they’ll want to ‘move away’ from you.
Most rebound relationships tend not to work out so instead of worrying whether you’ll still have a chance with your ex, redirect your attention to how you can make your time more enjoyable right now. By focusing on things you can control, you won’t allow the pain to prolong any longer then they need to.
How long should you wait? Allow for at least a few weeks to a month before picking up that phone. If that sounds like an eternity, it isn’t if you keep yourself busy and focus on something that will make the time go faster.
More often than not, if you stand by this rule, they will contact you first.
Want to know what to say when you do speak? Surprisingly many people screw things up upon that initial catch up because they suddenly cave in to their emotions and stop thinking with their head. Likewise if you freeze up and try to act like you don’t care, your ex might think you’re over them and continue to distance themselves.
There is hope however.
