They are very active throughout their lives and have high metabolism. A growing Shih Tzu puppy needs at least four meals a day. However, this need can be reduced to two meals after every twelve hours, once it's an adult. If it's not a heavy eater, you can keep feeding it whenever it feels like eating but make sure it's limited as the dog can become overweight. In case of obesity you should take the Shih Tzu puppy for walks or you can even get dog treadmills for these puppies to exercise. As these dogs grow old, they may suffer from spinal column problems. Shih Tzu puppies love to sleep comfortably and with a full tummy. Dog care is a must when it comes to having Shih Tzu puppies as pets.

Shih Tzu Grooming

Dog grooming also comes into play when your pet is a Shih Tzu as these puppies love to look good. Shih Tzus are one of the most popular dog breeds and they need a lot of grooming. When you are bathing a Shih Tzu puppy, make sure you use dog nail clippers and scissors to clean its nails and trim off extra hair. Use a dog conditioner for knotted hair. Don't use a shampoo to bathe the dog as these dogs have oil glands inside the body to keep their skin from chapping and shampooing can result in these oils getting washed away. Keep the eyes clean with cotton and wash them often as there can be an infection if you leave them unclean. Brush the dog's teeth regularly with a toothbrush and dog toothpaste. Make the dog eat hard dog biscuits so that its teeth remain strong and clean. Clean the ears with a cotton bud dipped in an ear cleaning solution and roll it around the flaps of the ear. Dry the hair with a blow dryer and style it if you want. You need to brush your dog's hair regularly with a hard bristle brush and a comb and some dog oil if needed. As mentioned earlier, Shih Tzu puppies are very quiet and love being pampered so they won't make noise while bathing and you can give your puppy a little snack treat for being such a good dog.

That was some useful information about the Shih Tzu puppies for you and I am sure you are eager to get one of these little fur balls as a pet for your home!
