Shampoo for Thinning Hair
Shampoo for thinning hair does not necessarily stop hair loss, but may add volume to your hair. Read on to know more about the best shampoo for thinning hair.
Types of Shampoos for Thinning Hair
Shampoos for thinning hair are available in two varieties, one that adds volume to hair and the other that has a deep cleansing formula which stops hair fall. You will have to choose the shampoo, as per your needs. If you have a major hair fall problem, then it is always better to go for one, which has hair loss preventing properties. The first type of shampoos for thinning hair called volumizers, may make your hair appear full, but may end up damaging it.
Volumizers
Ideally, any shampoo should be slightly acidic with a pH in a range of 4.5 to 5.5. Alkalinity makes the hair brittle and frizzy. Volumizers use this property of alkalinity to add volume to your hair. Such shampoo for thinning hair will make the surface of your hair rough and stiff. The stiffness of hair makes them stand out, thereby adding volume to your hair. They increase the diameter of every hair, so that the added effect results in fuller and thicker hair. Obviously, such shampoos are not good in the long run. You can consider using them for adding volume to your hair temporarily, but definitely not as a cure for thinning hair.
Deep Cleansers
Deep cleansers are the shampoos which not only clean the dirt and grime but also nullify the effects of DHT ( Dihydrotestosterone). This is a byproduct of testosterone and 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme found in the scalp. The effect of DHT is such that it sends false signals to the cells that control hair growth, thereby causing the hair to fall. The ingredients in deep cleansing shampoos for thinning hair aim at hair loss prevention by nullifying the effects of DHT. As you must have noticed, these shampoos eradicate the root cause of hair fall, hence can be considered a better option.
While buying a shampoo for thinning hair, always look out for the ingredients. The ingredients used in the shampoo must be capable of neutralizing DHT. Also, lookout for the pH balance of the shampoo. Remember, alkaline shampoo with pH levels more than 7 can render your hair weak and brittle. Hence, do not opt for temporary volumizers, but go for ones that can truly stop hair fall.
Excessive hair fall is often an indication of something gone wrong in the body. Hence, if you have a hair fall that is more than average, then you should consult a physician to diagnose the underlying problem.
