Shadow Realm: Chapter One
Lilith Cadwell, a seventeen year old girl who has always been able to see things normal people can, suddenly meets a mysterious young man who turns out to be the King of Demons. He takes her to the place where Demons and Angels have been fighting for over a thousand years, The Shadow Realm.
Normal is something Lilith Madeleine Cadwell could never EVER be. On the outside she is seen as the most beautiful girl in the neighbor hood, she is slightly taller then most girls and is thin with a figure that could send any man’s heart racing. She has soft smooth skin, pale in color with long straight black hair that is never tied up and always trailing behind her wildly. One eye was slightly hidden by her side fringe and her eyes are a blue as cold as ice. She always seemed to be deep in thought. One could only hope she acted like any normal girl but not everything acts as though it seems, in fact she is actually very distant and would much rather go off and do things her OWN way. Many boys have tried to sway her heart over the years, but to no avail, she seemed to be as cold as her eyes were. If you asked her mother she would tell you her daughter was a very "special" young lady (and her mum should know since she’s a psychiatrist). Why is Lilith strange? You ask. Because Lilith Cadwell sees things we don’t. Because she knows things you could only ever dream of. Because everyone thinks she’s a little bit different, but hey…that’s just everybody’s opinion. They think she’s odd because she never talks to anyone; she has no friends and definitely isn’t interested in getting some. She is too mysterious for people, too hard to handle and very intelligent. She spends most of her time at the library reading books about legends, myths and magic. Lilith is one of those rare people in this world who can see the hidden demons and angels among us (but she doesn’t tell anyone that). As well as being able to see the things we cannot Lilith could use magic; little did she know these strange abilities would throw her into the middle of a heap of trouble and adventure, but before we even get to that, Lilith’s story begins on a stormy day in September.
The rain trickled across Lilith’s’ bedroom window just like it always does in September. This season is always my favorite, she thought as she moved from her bed to the window. Her room was rather small compared to the other rooms in her two storey house, but that’s the way she liked it. She was an only child and didn’t understand why she had such a big house for just her and her mother. In the corner of her room she had an old single sized bed and in the other a desk completely covered in books. Her window was next to her desk. Even though it was noon there was barely any light that came through her window, it was a very grey day. She opened the window and leaned out on the sill looking at the people below walking on the sidewalk outside. Lilith paced her room until she finally decided to practice some magic, blue light started to flick through Lilith’s eyes ‘Morwen Mithrandír’ a wind spell that literally meant 'Dancing wind'. Blue wind swirled around her and took form of people that waltzed through her room dressed in rich colored suits and elegant ball gowns. The figures danced gracefully as a sweet tune was played by a newly formed orchestra. Her room looked like a massive ball room on the inside but on the outside it looked no different to a normal room. The room was filled with wind and even though the people formed by the wind seemed like ghosts no one cared because they were entranced by the music. Lilith sat back and watched her festival of wind twirling in time to the music. But soon the music begun to fade as the dancers began to slow until finally they disappeared leaving only blue wisps of smoke. Not long after her spell wore off her mother called out to her from the bottom of the stairs.
"Lilith! We’re going to Mrs. Livingston’s house in 5 minutes so get ready and come down stairs!" her mother’s shrill voice echoed through the hallway. A groan escaped from Lilith’s mouth. She hated Mrs. Livingston. Mrs. Livingston was the town gossip and needed to be the centre of attention at all times, maybe that’s why she dressed and acted like a fruit cake on drugs (and looked like one). Mrs. Livingston had bleached blonde hair and insisted it was natural, with "dark roots", which was always curled up beside her fat chubby cheeks. She wore clothes two tones too bright that hurt Lilith’s eyes when she looked at them. Mrs. Livingston’s son wasn’t her favorite person either; Gerard Livingston was a closed minded fool who forced his opinions on others. He was a person who thought that he was the most important person in the world and people should bow before him. He was a bully. He didn’t like the fact that Lilith couldn’t care less about him. Her mother wasn’t friends with Mrs. Livingston, so why were they going to her house?
Mrs. Livingston was more like a test subject for Dr. Elaine Cadwell, another strange mind for her shrink mother to dissect. Ms. Cadwell tried numerous times to understand her daughter’s mind but the true state of Lilith’s psyche always eluded her, the further her mother went the more questions appeared before Ms. Cadwell, so eventually she gave up.
"Lilith let’s go!" Ms. Cadwell called.
Lilith let out a low sigh; there was no denying the inevitable. She grabbed a blue and dark grey striped hoodie and put it on as she slowly walked down the stairs. She was wearing a black t-shirt that ironically said in big white letters "no way out" and dark blue skinny leg jeans. When Lilith finally reached the front door she found her old converse shoes and chucked them on. Ms. Cadwell was waiting in the car impatiently. When Lilith finally got into the car her mother was well and truly irritated at her daughter for taking so long. Lilith slumped into the passenger side seat and put on her seat belt as Ms. Cadwell started the car.
"I don’t see why you hate going to Mrs. Livingston’s so much…" Ms. Cadwell said, questioning Lilith’s objections.
"I don’t hate going to Mrs. Livingston’s, mother…" Lilith replied nonchalantly. Her mother raised an eyebrow at that.
"…It’s her that I hate." Lilith muttered under her breath.
"Lilith you should really give the lady a chance," Ms. Cadwell started. Lilith turned to her and glared.
"That lady doesn’t deserve it; she spreads poisonous rumors around town and expects them all to love her."
Ms. Cadwell couldn’t change her daughter’s mind once it was made up so she decided to give up, like she always did.
