Lilith sat outside the west wing bedroom it was the closest room to the southern hall that was big enough to treat Aeron in. A small elf boy sat next to her looking worried not only for his king but for her as well.
"Um…Mistress Lilith?" he said slowly. She turned to him and tried to smile.
"You know Acanthus; you don’t need to call me ‘mistress’"
"Ah o-okay…L-L-Lilith…you should be proud of yourself, I mean h-he would’ve been dead if ya hadn’t have used the protection spell"
Lilith turned away from him slowly and looked as if she was about to cry. That’s right she saved him but she didn’t know why. She was glad though, glad he was still alive.
"Acanthus…I would like to see him," she said.
"You won’t be able to, unless you can use healing spells," Acanthus replied half jokingly.
Lilith looked at him and raised one eyebrow, "I can use healing magic though…but why would that be so important?" she asked and looked at him dumbly.
Acanthus’s eyes widened, "you’re able to use healing spells?!" he bawled standing up. She looked surprised but nodded, "Demons can’t use healing magic!" he continued taking her hand and bursting through the room.
"Acanthus! What are you doing?!" Screamed a demon lady who was treating to Aeron. There were six demon ladies altogether but the one who had told Acanthus off looked like a harpy with purple skin and green feathered hair and strange bird like talons.
"She knows healing magic!" Acanthus said hurriedly pushing them out of the way and leading her to the bed where he lay, "Lilith please heal him!" the elf boy looked at her pleadingly, they all did. Even if they hadn’t asked she would of. She leaned over him, the jacket and white shirt had been removed and make shift bandages covered his wound she carefully removed them and begun the spell. ‘Maedhros Telemmaitë Ecthelion Annárë…’ the wound began to close and she continued, magical blue sparks flickered through her eyes ‘…Tuor Tulcakelumë Lamalas Linwëlin’ tears streaked down her cheeks as the pain of the spell bore into her. Healing spells took the most out of someone, because you were using your life force to mend someone else’s but she knew she had to finish it. She had to. As she whispered ‘Nienna’ the spell was complete, Aeron’s injuries were healed and disappeared without a trace. Lilith winced as every part of her body throbbed, pain shot through her right arm, but with a sigh of relief she fell back in exhaustion.
Lilith awoke suddenly sitting upright on a large bed, pain shot through her body which made her lurch backwards. She clicked her tongue irritably. She hated using healing magic because of its after effects, but she guessed it was worth it. Acanthus pushed open the door and peered into the room when he saw her awake a smile appeared on his face.
"Lilith!" he squealed and rushed to her bed. She smiled at him.
"Aeron is currently in a meeting with his generals but he said he would be by later. Are you able to move yet?"
Acanthus asked politely.
"Only a little bit," she said and looked out the large window to see it was about mid morning in the shadow realm, "How long have I been asleep?"" Lilith asked.
"About two days."
Lilith was surprised but on the other hand she knew she had used a very complicated spell.
"How do you know so much about magic Acanthus?" she asked Acanthus suddenly, on more then one occasion he had impressed her with how much he knew.
"My mother taught me, I can’t use it anymore, but I know every single word in magical language."
"Amazing," Lilith smiled, "so how old are you then?"
"Well I stopped ageing at 53" Acanthus replied innocently.
It was Lilith’s turn to gape at him. She didn’t quite understand what he meant by ‘stopped ageing’ but she decided to let it go for now. After she had been awake for sometime she got off the bed and began to move to get her muscles working again. The throbbing pain eventually dulled to a minor muscle ache.
"Acanthus…I’d like to go for a walk," Lilith said looking out the window but before he could reply the door opened violently and a girl version of Acanthus sauntered into the room. At the sight of Lilith the girl elf gawked like a child who had just seen the most beautiful thing in the world.
"Ah. Lilith. This is my twin sister, Idril," Acanthus said pointing at the small girl.
"Acanthus! You didn’t tell me she was so gorgeous!" gaped the little elf girl. Lilith let out a giggle and walked to the bed and eased herself down onto it.
"I don’t think I’m that gorgeous," Lilith said humbly.
"I do," Came a third voice from the doorway. It was Aeron with a childlike grin on his face. His hair had been brushed back neatly but some of his wild fringe still in front of his face. He was wearing a long black coat with gold buttons and black trouser pants. Underneath the coat was a plain white top that was slightly open around the neck. A silver chain hung from his slender neck. Lilith thought he looked rather dashing.
"You scrub up nicely," She chuckled. The childish grin on his face remained as he strolled over to her and kissed her on the forehead which made her blush terribly.
"Thank you for healing me," he said sweetly. Lilith smiled and kissed him on the cheek.
"It was my pleasure," she said tilting her head to see him better. His cheeks slowly turned a shade of pink and tried to hide it by covering his mouth and looking away as if he was thinking, which amused her slightly. After what seemed like an eternity of silence Aeron finally spoke.
"You know you still have to ask me a question…" Aeron said wistfully. That’s right, Lilith thought. Her eyes narrowed and tried to think of a question. Before she had the time to realize what she was asking it was too late; she had already blurted it out.
"Have you ever fallen in love?"
Aeron was taken back a bit but his face softened a slight smile appeared upon his lips, "I believe I’m starting too," he replied moving a bit closer to her. She could feel the blood rushing to her face. But the lovey dovey moment was interrupted abruptly by a long sigh from behind them; the two elf children had a dreamy expression of ‘what a beautiful couple’ on their faces. Aeron smiled and sat down beside her, resting his head on her shoulder which made her go even redder; it was his turn to ask a question. It seemed like an eternity until he thought up his own question.
"Why do you hate the world?" he asked simply. Lilith was about to retort that she didn’t, but then she would be lying. She thought carefully while Aeron watched her.
Slowly she started to talk, "Ever since I was a child I could remember seeing things. Things which would seem normal to you but would terrify any human...I mean, I saw things that weren’t supposed to exist, that were basically from nightmares. Everyone shunned me when they found out that I saw ‘weird’ things, they said I was a freak and I should stop lying, my own mother thought I was insane. She couldn’t "fix" me so she decided to give up and she continues to do so to this day. So yeah, I started to hate the world and everyone in it. I decided I would turn away from the world as it had done to me so I wouldn’t have to keep on getting hurt. Not once was I glad I had this ability…" Lilith’s voice trailed off as she felt tears welling up in her eyes, she gulped down hard and continued, "but somehow I’m now glad I do and I think that’s because I met you Aeron, I’m finally happy…" Tears started to stream down her cheeks and all the emotions she had locked up over the years suddenly spilled out. Aeron wrapped his arms around her and held her close. She was overcome with a surge of warmth that seemed to protect her from every single hurt she had ever felt. Aeron embraced her gently as she cried onto his shoulder. She never wanted aeron to let her go. She knew she would never forget these arms; they belonged to the one who stole her heart. Somehow she didn’t hate the world so much anymore.
Lilith wished this moment would last forever but of course like all good things it had to come to an end and this good thing came to an end with a sudden knock at the oak door. Lilith slowly pulled away though Aeron was as reluctant as her to break away, but he did. With the end of his sleeve he wiped away the lingering tears and kissed her softly on the forehead. The oak door was knocked again.
"Enter," Aeron said halfheartedly.
