Shadow Of Your Memory
A tale of a broken heart, and a love departed.
As twilight embraced the sunset,
I watched you board the train,
A cold wind blew through my heart,
I knew I'd never see you again.
Fate has carved with blood on stone,
A prophesy to be fulfilled,
And though I managed to hold back the tears,
Your departure has left me chilled.
I watched the train evaporate
Within the shadow of the tunnel,
A web of darkness weaved it's shawl
To dowse your departing candle.
The tears came then, tears of loneliness,
Tears of fear and misery,
And I knew then the pain of a broken heart,
Of how physical it can be.
I walked through the door of my closet
And turned the key to lock myself in,
Away from the reality of your departure,
I attempted to block your memory from my mind,
But to no avail,- your whispers hummed
Their morbid psalm into my head,
And I smelled the scent of your memory,
It lingered there like death.
I tried to wear your face for a smile
But your tears made me cry again,
And my heart skipped a beat of deja vu
As those tears brought back the pain.
It left my soul cold and lifeless,
Unable to grieve for your departure,
Leaving my heart to bear the burden alone
Within the agony of a loveless future.
And I saw visions of an angel dressed in black,
Her eyes were streamed with mournful tears,
She held out a hand to me,
Offered to lead me through my fears,
But my cowardice was stronger than she,
For I declined her offer of release,
And chose instead to stay here
Within the shadow of your memory.
