Setting up a Koi Pond in Your Garden

There are a number of benefits to setting up a koi pond in you yard. Here's a basic look at what's involved.
Setting up a koi pond in your garden is sure to bring you much pleasure. Before you begin make certain the space was chosen is large enough for the koi pond to fit. Take a little bit of time to consider your chosen location, in case you change your mind. Once you have begun digging, you will not want to start over.

Make sure that your pond is near a source of electricity, in order to plug in your pump. This will also give you the option of adding lights.

You may decide to pour your pond, or purchase one which is preformed. There is a great variety of these preformed ponds available. You will want to make sure that your pond has a depth of four feet, or deeper, in order to make sure that your fish will be healthy. This depth will also make it more difficult for predators to attack your fish. It is important to understand that children will be attracted to this pond. You may want to install a fence.

Make sure that your pond is located in an area, where it will not be exposed to any chemicals. Even a small amount of chemicals can do serious damage to koi. In fact, it can be fatal.

Koi do not seem to enjoy having a lot of plants in the living area. Quite often they will take these plants up by the roots. It seems rather silly to add plants to your pond, knowing that they will not last. The one plant that seems to do well in a koi pond, is the lily. If you want to have plants in your pond, you may want to give lilies a try.

Setting up a koi pond in your garden will be a perfect way to make it more beautiful. This pond is certain to bring you pleasure for years to come.
