Seth's Delight - Leave Home
Later that night , Seth joined me in bed. I was asleep when I felt his arms around me , comforting me. "Lydia," he breathed against my neck, trailing his fingers over my chest and abdomen. I sighed. His hands were cold." ...
LYDIA
I stood in front of my father who had his face buried in his hands. My mother was out at one of her rich friend's garden parties so I had stayed home to take care of my father who had suddenly fallen ill. I didn't know what to say so I poured him a glass of cold water Here I stood in front of him and he hadn't even looked up. "Father would you like a glass of water?" I asked. He said something unintelligible. I wanted so bad to go to him and be assured that my father was alright yet I was afraid to. There had been moments in my childhood that I care not to think of that have made me cower away from my father even when he was sober and wanting me to be near him.
I stuck my arm out and handed him the water moving back when he reached for it. "What's your problem? It's not like I have the plague you stupid girl. It's just a headache." he said to me. I apologized to him and he waved me away while mumbling something about a debt to pay. Without looking back at him I went to my room and buried myself beneath the blankets in my room and slept.
Later that night Seth joined me in bed. I was asleep when I felt his arms around me comforting me. "Lydia," he breathed against my neck trailing his fingers over my chest and abdomen. I sighed. His hands were cold. "You just came in." His mouth was against my neck when he spoke. "I was visiting someone."
I nodded. I trusted Seth and loved him with every fiber of my being. I know he would never hurt me or lie to me. I loved him so much...
Seth rolled me over onto my back and hovered over me for a few seconds looking down at my face with his blue eyes. In the moonlight his eyes were like the ocean clean and clear. He searched my face with his beautiful eyes and smiled down at me planting little kisses at my temples. "I can't believe my luck." he whispered tracing the features of my face with his hands. I smiled up at him. " No Seth, it wasn't luck. It was a blessing and I was put here to be yours Seth. I " I said sweeping my hand over my body, "Am yours. I will always be yours. In ways you've saved me from loneliness while still letting me be free. At first I thought you were going to be like my father." I said
Seth looked shocked and drew back. "What has you're father done to you?" I turned away and spoke to him with my back to him. " We've always know what my Father was doing yet Mother and I were far too afraid to say anything." The memories were painful ones, ones that I will never forget and refuse to relive.
"Lydia if your father hurt you, you need to tell me. I love you I don't want you hurting. For any reason at all."
I stood and took off the small nightgown I was wearing and turned my back to him. I looked over my shoulder and traced a scar that went from my neck to the middle of my back "Do you see this?" I asked him. He nodded his eyes still on the scar. "I was ten when this happened. He was drunk that day and took a knife to my back when I came in from playing outside. He had told me to come in and I didn't hear him. You see I was five blocks away playing with my friend, Isobel. That night he waved the knife in front of my face and said 'Lydia when I call you, you come to me You can hear me you little bitch'.
I bit my lip as tears trailed down my cheeks "He locked me in the basement and threatened to kill me if I made a peep. I stayed down there for nearly eight hours in the darkness, bleeding Eight hours! Who abandons their ten year old child to a cold dark basement for eight hours? Better yet, what kind of father tries to kill his own daughter? I was happy to be alive."
Seth was glaring down at the blankets his hand balled into a tight fist. I rubbed his arm to soothe him. "But that was a long time ago. I'm over it now-"
"How many other times has he hurt you or your mother?" That was the question that I dreaded answering.
"He has an alcohol addiction even though drinking isn't leg-"
"That is no excuse!" Seth yelled His chest was rising and falling with each breath he took he looked furious beyond belief. Then he looked at me and calmed down, putting his hands on either side of my face. He apologized. "Nothing what you said was true. There is no excuse for him to do what he does. Beating my mother and me when he was drunk and sober and all the organized crime he was involved with. I even knew that he was stepping out on my mother with another woman."
"What?"
"Yes. Her name was Belle. She was a whore from what I could tell. Whatever made her attracted to my father was the death of her." I said remembering that night when I was thirteen and Father came home with blood all over his clothes. He'd burned them and told us not to say a word if we wanted to see tomorrow. We never saw Belle again after that.
I looked up and saw Seth starring down at me with sad blue eyes. "I want us to leave this place and soon your mother too." I looked at him questioningly and asked how was that possible. "We just leave. Maxwell doesn't have to know where we went. If you can keep a secret we can leave and you never have to see him again. After what he's done, I wish to have you safely away from here and him." he said. He turned on the light and grabbed his coat. "We're never coming back." He said. I felt some relief for once.
