Sesame Oil Recipes

Sesame is among the oldest seeds being used by man. These seeds have their origin in India. However, its use is widespread from the Middle East, Africa to the Orient. The color of sesame oil is amber. It has a distinctive aroma. Sesame oil is made by pressing toasted sesame seeds. One will come across the use of sesame oil in a number of Indian and Chinese recipes. It is also used to make marinades, salad dressing recipes, etc. There are some recipes, which demand use of a couple of drops of sesame oil on a recipe just before it is served. There is an important sesame oil nutrition fact. Sesame oil prevents burning and also seals the nutrients in, when the food is cooked in it. It can also be used for sautéeing, baking, pan-frying, etc. Toasted sesame oil recipes include fried noodles, fried rice, stir fries, etc. Now we will concentrate on sesame oil recipes and get to know some mouth-watering dishes, which we can make using this oil.

Recipes Using Sesame Oil

There are a number of sesame oil recipes. There are many sesame oil benefits, which can be derived, when one uses it in cooking.

Chicken Wings in Sesame Oil
This is a Chinese recipe to make chicken wings. It is a simple recipe. You can serve it either with rice or with bread.

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds Chicken Wings
  • 10 tablespoons Dark Soy Sauce
  • 1 clove Crushed Garlic
  • 1 Green Onion
  • ¼ cup Sesame Oil
  • 5 tablespoons Light Soy Sauce
  • 1¼ cups Water
Method
  • Finely chop the onion.
  • Cut the chicken wings into pieces according to your choice.
  • Take a large pan and rub crushed garlic onto the chicken wings and keep it aside for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Then add dark soy sauce, light soy sauce and green onion to the chicken and place the pan on heat.
  • If you are not in a hurry, you can let all the ingredients sit for 15 to 20 minutes, before you place the pan on heat.
  • Stir all the ingredients together and let the chicken cook for about 15 to 20 minutes over low to medium heat.
  • After the chicken is half cooked add sesame oil to the chicken and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes over low heat.
  • When the chicken is cooked, add a dash of sesame oil to the chicken.
  • Remove it from heat and serve with rice or bread.
Noodles in Sesame Oil
If you like nutty flavor, then you may want to try making noodles in sesame oil. It is a very easy and simple recipe, which will not take too long to cook. Hence, it is my favorite from all the sesame oil recipes.

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon Peanut Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Toasted Sesame Oil
  • ⅓ pound Thin Spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • Pinch Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Scallion
Method
  • Cook spaghetti to al dente. When it is cooked, drain it and let it cool.
  • Till spaghetti is cooking chop scallion.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk peanut butter, cayenne pepper, sesame oil, vegetable oil and soy sauce, till well mixed.
  • Then add in the spaghetti to the mixing bowl and toss till spaghetti is well coated with the mixture.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds and scallion on the noodles to garnish it.
Chicken Salad with Sesame Oil
I am a big fan of salads. Out of which chicken salad is my favorite, therefore you will find me experimenting with chicken salads all the time. This is so far the best chicken salad recipe I have tasted. Give it a try.

Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar
  • 4 teaspoon Honey
  • 2 teaspoon Sesame Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
  • 1 cup Peas
  • 1 ½ cup Sliced Carrots
  • 1 can Chunks of Chicken
  • Lettuce for garnishing
Method
  • Blanch both sliced carrots and peas.
  • Drain the chicken chunks.
  • In a mixing bowl mix rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil and soy sauce together.
  • Then add peas, carrots and chicken to the mixing bowl and toss to coat the chicken with the sauce.
  • Cover the mixing bowl and let it refrigerate till it is time for you to serve.
  • Garnish with lettuce and serve.
These were some of my personal favorite sesame oil recipes. If you ask me what is a good sesame oil substitute, then I will say peanut oil does come pretty close. I wonder if there is any other substitute, one can make use of.
