Makeup for Sensitive Eyes

People who have sensitive eyes should be very careful while applying eye makeup as it might lead to watering and redness. They should always use makeup that is specially formulated for sensitive eyes.
Eye makeup is used to enhance the beauty of the eyes and the right cosmetics can make your eyes look more appealing. But what about people who wear contact lenses and have sensitive eyes? Should they forgo eye makeup completely? Well the answer is that people who have very sensitive eyes can still wear eye makeup without any fear of an allergic reaction. Sensitive eyes are prone to swelling, redness, watering, itching and flaking of skin. In adverse conditions, you might get an eye infection with crust formation in the eyes. To avoid such complications, you should choose eye makeup for sensitive eyes with care.

Cosmetics for Sensitive Eyes

While choosing sensitive eye makeup, you should always purchase cosmetics that are labeled hypoallergenic or non comedogenic. These are products that are dermatologically approved and have a less likelihood of irritating your eyes. All cosmetics contain preservatives that help to retard the growth of bacteria. However, over time and if the cosmetic cases are not tightly closed, bacteria enters the cosmetics and multiplies on it. If such cosmetics are used, then you might develop inflammation of the cornea and even conjunctivitis. The best way to avoid this is to properly close the lids of cosmetics and to replace old cosmetics every three to four months.

Another very important factor to consider while choosing sensitive eye makeup is that you should always opt for cosmetics that are fragrance free. Some people are very sensitive to even fragrances and it might lead to an allergic reaction. Also, read the label carefully before purchasing sensitive eye makeup and look out for ingredients such as nickel, lanolin and rosin which causes itching, redness and flaking of the eye. When choosing products like eye liner, opt for creamy wax based eyeliner instead of liquid eye liners. Liquid eye liner contains latex which might get into your eyes causing pain and redness. While applying a wax based liner, make sure that you apply it outside the lash line and do not rub it on the inside rim of the eye. Always keep eye liner pencils sharpened so that you can apply it with very little pressure, thus protecting your eyes.

When choosing eyeshadows for sensitive eye makeup, opt for cream or gel based shadows than powder ones. The pigments in the powder is likely to get in your eyes and cause an infection. Avoid any eyeshadow with shimmer or glitter particles in it and also steer clear of metallic eyeshadow. If any eyeshadow gets in your eyes, wash it off with cold water immediately. No eye makeup is complete without a swipe of mascara to define your lashes. While choosing mascara for sensitive eyes, use a hypoallergenic mascara which has thickening properties. Avoid lash lengthening mascara as they contain micro fibers that might enter your eyes and cause pain and swelling. Stay away from waterproof mascara as they require a lot of effort to remove and might cause damage to your eyes. Mascaras should be replaced every two months even if there is a lot of product left as it is very prone to bacterial growth. Strictly avoid pumping the mascara wand in and out of the container as this allows air to get inside along with bacteria.

Sensitive eye makeup remover should be used to remove eye makeup since they are specially formulated for sensitive eyes. It will effectively remove all trace of makeup without causing any dryness or irritation. The best way to avoid an eye infection is to choose good brands of cosmetics and replacing them every three to four months.
