Senator McCain’s Opinion on Viagra, Contraceptives and Insurance

Arizona Senator John McCain, the Republican nominee for President of the U.S., prides himself on being a straight shooter. But some believe he’s dropped the ball when it comes to birth control, ED drugs and insurance.
It seemed implausible to happen, but John McCain proved that persistence can eventually pay off. While most dismissed his chance of becoming the Republican presidential nominee, it is all but a foregone conclusion the party of the elephants will formally name him the man for Barack Obama to beat to take residence in the Oval Office.

One of the things that helped McCain win the coveted nominee slot was his refusal to give up, much like a nation of men who refuse to accept the fact that they are unable to achieve an erection. Those men held out hope until erectile dysfunction drug Viagra appeared on the open market. By buying Viagra online, millions of men have found, as McCain has, that persistence and patience really do win the race. But now McCain has found himself embroiled in controversy over his inability to discuss the insurance issue of Viagra vs. birth control pills in an informed manner.

When confronted by a reporter about why he voted for a bill that would allow for insurance companies to cover Viagra but not birth control pills, McCain, uncharacteristically, was clearly uncomfortable and stumped, answering that he really wasn’t sure how he voted on that issue because of the numbers of votes he casts. He replied, "I don’t know enough about it to give you an informed answer because I don’t recall the vote… it’s something I hadn’t thought much about, but I will get back to you."

While this issue isn’t likely to make or break the election, it is nonetheless something that could make a difference in how some women perceive McCain. It’s not unusual for a woman to pay $600 per year for birth control pills, no small amount when a woman is on a tight budget that many politicians, including McCain, consider pocket change. And while many health insurance companies still won’t cover a man’s cost to order Viagra, just the mere fact that some of them do can be enough to send a woman into a tizzy when she realizes that she’s the one having to pay to make sure that the guy’s erect penis, which will get her into a pregnancy situation to begin with, got hard because he didn’t have to pay for his Viagra.

Some women feel so strongly about this issue that they have started a petition to influence insurance companies to cover birth control. But where John McCain – whose beautiful blonde wife is some 18 years his junior – decides to land on this issue remains to be seen, if it’s seen at all. Many politicians in his position choose to use the excuse that they have more important issues to focus on than an issue involving something as personal as reproductive matters. And perhaps wisely so.

But no matter what you personal stance is on this issue, or whether you’re male of female, you must know that Viagra has change the lives of millions of couples worldwide who had been without an alternative when faced with the problem of erectile dysfunction. And don’t forget to vote!
