Selling Your Digital Camera
If you want to buy a new digital camera, but you don’t want to just give yours away, you can sell it. Especially if you are thinking about buying a rather expensive camera you can use the money that you make off your old one to put toward your new camera. Before you sell your digital camera there are a few things you need to know first.
Hopefully you kept everything from when your camera was brand new, including the box. If you don’t still have the original box that’s okay, but remember for next time to keep everything for the future sale. Start looking for everything else the camera came with when you originally bought it, all the cords, the instruction book is very important, and include any accessories you may have purchased for it because it probably won’t work on your new digital camera and it will add to the price of what you will sell your camera for. If you even have a memory card for it that would be great because you know the future buyer will need one, just make sure you completely erase it before selling it.
Next, you are going to want to make sure your digital camera is nice and clean before you can sell it. You can either read the manual to clean the camera yourself, or it may be worth it to take it to a camera shop to get a professional cleaning done, this of course would also be a great selling point. You could even keep the receipt to show the proof if you wanted. Nobody would want a camera that isn’t clean and in great condition. Many people are careful with such a (usually) small and expensive device anyway, but now that you are thinking of selling one, make sure to take great care of your next one in case you want to sell that one someday.
When you write up the description of your camera make sure to point out all the things that made you want to buy it which would include the number of megapixels, the zoom, and list all the accessories you are selling with it, this way the buyer can know exactly what he/she is getting and they can know it is a good price because it even comes with extras. You can either sell your camera online or put it in the newspaper.
There are websites that will help tell you how much your camera is worth and your accessories to go with it. You can also take your camera to a local photography shop that also sells used equipment on consignment. So, if you are for sure you don’t want your current camera anymore, go ahead and sell it and make sure you follow the above tips. Just be aware, since technology changes so fast, your camera, depending on the age and technology, may not be worth as much as you were hoping for. Good luck!
