Self Defense Products - How to Protect Your Life

There are many commercially available non-lethal weapons in the market that will not break the bank but can break the spirit, or at least the body, of your attacker. These include pepper and mace sprays, stun guns as well as Tasers, and personal alarms.
Self Defense Products - How to Protect Your Life
When it comes to protecting your precious life and limb, you must adapt all measures necessary. And lest you think that you cannot achieve this life-or-death goal because you are a hapless and helpless woman, then you must have been living under a rock during the past century.

Personal Alarms: Taking Screams to an Alarming Level

Screams are made for a variety of reasons like happiness, fear, excitement, even extreme grief. But amongst all these reasons, it is the scream made in fear that can very well save your life from certain death at the hands of violent aggressors.

However, you can only sustain screaming for a limited time and your screams can only carry so far. It’s a good thing then that you have a personal alarm with you at all times! And the best thing is that you can either hide them inside your purse, attach them to your clothing or loop them around your wrist, all of which means that it is always within your reach.

With most personal alarms, you just pull a cord or push a button to activate the ear-splitting siren-like alarms. You either attract the attention of other people thereby scaring off your would-be attacker or startle your attacker such that he can loosen his hold on you thereby allowing you to escape.

Mace and Pepper Sprays: Skunks Have Nothing on Them

The best thing about mace and pepper sprays is that you can protect your life without killing somebody else, which is the ideal situation in most cases. Their features also allows for quick reaction times that provide the opportunity to run away to safety.

First, you just push the button and spray your attacker’s eyes with a single push of the button, even at distances of 5 feet. Usually, each pepper spray will have 5 one-second bursts of fine capsicum grains that should provide for ample opportunities to hit your target.

Second, your attacker will suffer the effects of pepper spray. These include swelling of the mucous membranes that will lead to difficulty in breathing as well as swelling of the eyes that will result in the eyes closing. Since there is also pain felt upon contact, your attacker will be temporarily incapacitated such that you can make good your escape.

Indeed, the skunks’ infamous stink have nothing on the power of pepper sprays to deter malicious intents! At least, with the skunk stink, tomatoes are often sufficient to drive away the sting; not so with pepper sprays’ aftereffects that can last for hours and hours.

Electroshock Devices: Shocking the Senses

Now, if you are really intent on protecting your life by shocking the senses of your attacker, literally, then electroshock devices are for you. Nowadays, you don’t even have to worry about non-penetration through thick clothing as well as initiating close contact with your aggressor because stun guns and the like are designed to counteract these factors.

Usually, electroshock weapons can be applied on any part of the body. The increased electrical current causes the body to produce more lactic acid and hence immobilize the person. For optimal effect, target the upper shoulders and neck as well as below the ribcage.

In conclusion, women have an impressive arsenal of self-defense weapons at their disposal. The trick is in its proper usage and target, which increase the chances for effective crime deterrence.
