Selecting the Right Wood File Cabinet

Buying a file cabinet can be an investment in your home or business. Find out everything you need to know before spending your hard earned money.
Selecting the Right Wood File Cabinet
The first thing to consider when looking into determining the right file cabinet for your needs is to determine the size, style, and what quality you want to invest in. They can be highly useful for a variety of purposes. File cabinets usually come in either metal or wood however if you are looking for something durable and elegant you are going to want to look at the options that are available in solid wood. File cabinets can be equally attractive additions to your home or office. Just as with any other type of furniture file cabinets, come in complimentary styles such as traditional, contemporary and mission. They also come in standard sizes based primarily on the file size and type that are going to be used in them.

You are going to have sizes that are classified as letter, legal, lateral and then personal. Personal file cabinets are going to contain the ability to handle only a single size, this is going to be the standard letter size. A letter-sized file cabinet is going to be able to handle both letter and legal size pages depending on how the draw is set up. Lateral can also hold both but are usually used for standard letter size and usually come with multiple draws. These are usually long and are not as deep.

File cabinets come in a number of different sizes based on number of drawers. Personals are usually one to two drawers, laterals are usually only up to three drawers while the standard filing cabinets can come in three, four or five drawer and in some cases two drawer cabinets. Consider any other uses you might have for the file cabinet not just to store your files but as an active piece of furniture in your home or office. What other uses can you fulfill with the simple addition of a file cabinet to your home or office?

When considering the other uses of a filing cabinet make sure that you look at the weight of the object, for example being placed on top of the filing cabinet. You also need to be aware of how much you are putting into the filing cabinet since heavy draws can actually cause the filing cabinet to tip over. It is a good idea to make sure that you evenly space files and make sure that you are not overloading your filing cabinet as well as making sure that the items you place on top of the cabinet are not too heavy for it.

Larger filing cabinets should not be homes for TVs or other electronic equipment if there are children in the home as it may lead to accidents. Having a filing cabinet can be a great way to provide storage space and organization to your home or office as well as provide an excellent and elegant piece of furniture. Assess the quality you want and the amount of storage space that you are going to need on a regular basis when considering which file cabinet to purchase.
