Select Comfort Bed Reviews and Ratings

I discuss the findings from our Select Comfort research involving nearly 1,000 actual owners. The issue of comfort is addressed.
If you are looking for accurate and unbiased information on the Select Comfort / Sleep Number bed, I think that you’ll appreciate this article.

My research team has collected data from over 950 Select Comfort owners on their ownership experience. We gathered this information from hundreds of online message boards, which are excellent sources of objective, quality information.

What the results reveal is interesting. This article will discuss from the findings what is probably the most important issue: comfort.

Hype or Substance

You’ve probably seen the Select Comfort TV commercials in which the bed is really hyped, and claims are made that it’s more comfortable than traditional, innerspring mattresses. According to our data, there is substance behind this hype.

That's because about 80% of the Select Comfort owners included in our research indicate that their bed is comfortable. By contrast, about 65% of innerspring mattress owners say that their bed is comfortable, according to our innerspring bed research.

Less Pain

The TV commercials also claim that the Select Comfort bed results in less pain. This also is largely true. About 13% of owners explicitly say that the bed results in less pressure points and less hip, shoulder and back pain. This is a substantially higher percentage than is the case with innerspring beds. A significant number of Select Comfort owners also report less tossing and turning at night.

The main reason for the good comfort, according to owners, is that the firmness of the bed is adjustable. In case you don’t know, Select Comfort beds are primarily composed of air. At the touch of a button, the firmness can be increased by adding air and decreased by letting air out. In addition, the beds often have two independent air chambers for each side so that each person can have their own firmness setting.

Dissatisfaction

What about the 20% or so of owners who did not find the bed to be comfortable? Their main reason for not liking the bed often had to do with issues related to the middle of the bed, the area between the two sleepers.

Owners complained of a divider that makes lying on the middle of the bed virtually impossible to do. Also, owners said that they would often roll toward the middle of the bed, especially if the two sides had very different firmness settings. Other comfort-related complaints involved the bed "sleeping hot," being too hard and only being suitable for back sleepers.
