Seemly Forbidden [Chapter 1- First sight]
A teenage girl in high school runs in a vampire who hates what he is.
I swerved quickly from the opposing teammates, kicking the ball with every step I took as I ran towards the goal. I could hear the crowd screaming my name, people yelling to "GO", others were plainly screaming from excitement, and my coach yelling for me to pass. Tapping the soccer ball on it’s side, it rolled towards Molly. Molly wasn’t the greatest player on the team, she occasionally tripped over the ball or miss it whenever she would try to kicked it. So, I wasn’t surprised when she passed it back to me- just like I wanted her too. Picking up my speed when the ball was now in my possession, an adrenaline rush rushing through my body. I grew closer to the goal; I had over hundreds of eyes on my back as I brought my right leg backwards and swung at the ball and it shot towards the goalie.
It all went slow motion for me, I could see her jump slowly through the air with her arms stretched over her head. I was able to notice the beads of sweat dripping down her forehead, her dirty palms as she had her hands opened to stop the ball from hitting the back of the net- But, the ball passed easily past her finger tips. Once passing, everything went back to it’s normal speed and the soccer ball hit the back of the net in less then a nanosecond. A roar then went through the crowd and they all jumped on to their feet with most of their arms in the air.
My team surrounded me and started slapping me on my back saying their congratulations. Smiling, I passed my hand over my forehead to wipe the beads of sweat that slid down my face. It was then that I saw him as my teammates left to find their parents.
He leaned against the old oak tree a few feet from the other end of the soccer field. It was his hair that I noticed first. Such a brilliant shade of red that it mixed perfectly with his light toned skin. Slowly, I exhaled my breath when I realized that I hadn’t been breathing while I looked at him. I was hoping he didn’t notice my staring, he was just so…. So…. Gorgeous. He was wearing one of those jackets, that ones that I like to call ‘bad boy’ jackets. The ones that are made of leather and were worn but still makes the wearer absolutely wonderful. His jeans were a lightly blue, probably faded, and there was a hole in each of the knees.
It was hard to tear my gaze away from him when I heard my mother call my name. I prayed that he didn’t hear or wouldn’t turn his head curiously to learn who Raleigh was. I wouldn’t want to be embarrassed when he noticed the tall stringy blonde headed girl in the middle of the soccer field. I didn’t consider myself that attractive. I had such long legs and arms, that boys were immediately turned off at my height. Even though I’m a fast runner and really athletic, I’m not that graceful. I could barely walk down a hallway without stumbling a bit or running into a person.
"You’re father and I are going McChickens. You want to come?"
I stared my mother as my answer. She knew that I didn’t like the town’s restaurant and I never had liked it. It was basically a crowded room and the waiters and waitresses are awfully rude and looked like they never take a shower. The floor was coated in a layer of dirt and I swear that they never wipe the tables off.
"Ry, Don’t give me that look. We’ll be there for awhile if you need us, just call the cell…. Okay?"
My mom and me were total opposites. I was at least a six inches taller then my mom. As I stood at six feet, my mom was around 5’ 6". Her hair was a dark shade of brown and had elegant waves that people in town constantly complement her on. While my hair was straight blonde and was a greenish color from me swimming in the town’s pool all the time. My style of clothes was totally different from hers also. I choose to wear guy shorts, the type that reach down to your knees, and tight fitting tang-tops. While my mother’s clothes was the expensive more dressy clothing, I never see her in shorts or T-shirts.
"Yeah, Alright mom. I’ll call you if I need you," I told her just to keep her quite. I was tired and sick of her already, we weren’t the type to get along for that long. I’d rather hang out with my dad fishing and hunting then go shopping with my mother.
Watching my mother nod and leave my alone on the field, I turned my head to look at the guy leaning up against the oak tree one more time. He was still there, he was just looking at me. I gasped, I wasn’t expecting him to be looking at me or to even still be there. Everyone was gone, except him and me. I looked back at him, holding his gaze. His face was so angelic. A square jaw and matured eyes that seemed to hold a longing. I was just about to give him a smile when his curious face quickly change to one of anger. He looked furious and I noticed that he clenched his fists together.
Wimping out of the smile, I simply looked away and started walking towards the benches where I had my bag. I could still feel his eyes looking at my back as I bent down and lifted my bag up and placed the strap over my shoulder and I picked up my bottle of water. I turned around to see that I was correct, he was still staring at me with his furious eyes. I don’t know what I did to get this guy mad at me except staring at him for a few moments, I then thought that maybe it was that. Giving him a timid smile, I started to walk across the field away from him.
It bothered me a bit to have someone give me such a look. It disturbed my mind the entire walk home. I just couldn’t pin why he would give me such a look like that. Was he part of the group at school that I publicly embarrassed? I really didn’t mean to, I just tripped and knocked a stray of food into the chest of one of the girls. She screamed at me for probably ten minutes and after that swearing for her revenge.
Arriving to my home, I stepped up the porch steps and bent down and grabbed the key that my mom hid under the mat. It was a rather obvious place and I constantly switched it to under the rocking chair’s cushion. Unlocking the door, I stepped inside and dropped my bag onto the floor with a loud thud. My house wasn’t that big. A three bedroom house with two upstairs and one in the basement, I had the privilege to have my room upstairs with my own bathroom when my parents took the one in the basement. The extra room was used as the guest room and computer room. It was more of the computer room since I don’t think we ever had a family member stay the night and used the room to sleep in.
Setting my water bottle and key on the table in the kitchen, I walked through the dining room and living room before reaching the steps and heading upstairs. Slowly, taking my time, I walked up them and counting each one as my hand trailed along the railing. My mind was still flooded with the thought of that one gorgeous boy leaning against the tree. The memory of his eyes looking into my gave my shivers down my spine. He had such a look to him, a look that made me weak at the knees even though I didn’t know who he was. His face was like an angels, flawless and beautiful. His slight muscular build cause me to let out a soft stuttering breath.
Finally, reaching to the top, I went to my room and plopped down on the bed. My room was small with the bed up against the wall in the upper right corner, my dresser in the lower right, and my desk in the wall next to my door to my closet and the door to hallway. The colors were bright and girly, mostly hot pink, lime green, purple, and orange. I pulled back my comforter on my bed, crawling underneath it and resting my head on my pillow and soon falling asleep.
