This article teaches you how to begin preparing your home for security improvements that are necessary but not too expensive.
In this article we will show you how to begin to analyze the security of your family home. Hopefully, this approach will prevent you from becoming a criminal's next victim.
This first article, in the series, will teach you a quick way to begin that comprehensive study for the security of your family home. What you learn from that analysis will enable you to begin a proper security upgrade with better focus on priorities. Let us begin.
For quite a few years now I have been studying the science of Safety and security for the family home. I have discovered much. Technology has done wonderful things to preserve the safety of our general population from the criminal predators that plaque our land. Great progress has been made in the perfection of home fire safety equipment, Carbon monoxide detection, wired and wireless burglar alarms and video camera technology. This subject is a many faceted science, to be sure. Technology is cheaper and much more advanced now, but the proper technology is just one fix to the many problems that we face. Here, we will eventually touch base with them all but for today we discuss how to not become a victim.
To begin, Knowledge of Criminal psychology and the workings of the defective human mind can go a long way in identifying ways to protect our most vulnerable, the elderly, the women and our children. You will find this article to be very informative. Thank you for being concerned enough to learn more for the benefit of those you hold dear. I will do my best to provide solutions for you.
The magnitude of our enemies activities is staggering! Crime affects everyone in America in some form or another. From the higher prices that we pay for Auto insurance, to more expensive home owners insurance, and even the higher consumer prices that we pay at the store for the goodies we all want and need, everything has been adjusted to address the issue of crime. In 2006 there were well over 10,000,000 (Million) arrests in this country for criminal activities that cover the entire spectrum of common crime. The thing you must bear in mind here is this. There were many more crimes committed that were never solved! They were never included in the records. These are facts that, for your safety awareness, you should know, but unless you dig them up on your own the authorities won't tell you this. Here is the reason for that. Politicians do not get votes by being the messengers of bad news. Our system becomes less stable for those in control if you learn that their system of checks and balances isn't working.
You must learn to take care of yourself because by the time the police arrive you will just be another statistic.
Most of us are so busy with our day to day routines that we rarely think about the status of our personal security. When I say security I’m not just talking about the alarm system that you had installed last year. Safety and security include a broad spectrum of topics that can include any of the following, burglary, Fire, Carbon Monoxide Poisonings, Home invasions, Home Accidents, violent crimes, sudden infant death and more. I’m referring to our normal behavior patterns in our day to day lives where We fail to analyze our actions or our inaction with regard to becoming a victim of those hazards where we live. This is normal for most of us but, make no mistake about it, being sloppy about security is very dangerous in today’s world!
Every neighborhood is different and every home is different. Some are safer than others. This is for certain. Drug crime has changed the world where we live because when neighborhoods have drug dependency problems everything gets bent out of whack, especially the once normal minds of the neighbors who have become the new addicts in the neighborhood.
Other factors also contribute to the mix. The exodus of jobs that once supported the populations in most American towns has increased the social stress factors to all time highs. On the average, lower wages that bite into everyone’s private economy has become the rule and also a big problem. Unemployment and a drug problem is the only excuse and the only reason a drug addict needs to start robbing from the neighbors, or for molesting your children. Their minds are not right on drugs! With this in mind it is time to ask some serious questions about your own personal space that you call home.
Here are some things you should think about when your life seems normal. Ask yourself this question.
What am I doing (or not doing) that the criminal can use against me?
Start a list and write each question down and then try to answer them with a solution to that question. Continue this exercise until you have identified all of the security concerns for your living area!
Here are some important questions that need answered, but by no means the only ones, that you should include. I encourage you to expand on them as you see fit. The more problems that you identify now will mean the better chance you have of protecting yourself sooner than later when it has become too late.
Are your children leaving the doors unlocked? Is the doggy door so big that someone could crawl through? Do we have broken locks on any of our windows and doors? Do our windows have adequate coverage and security? Do I leave the garage door open for extended periods of time? Is my routine perfectly visible to any addict in the neighborhood? Do my kids spend time at home alone? Do any of these junkies know our family routine? Do my children know safe options that they can utilize in an emergency situation? Do we, as a family, have plenty of toys and gadgets than other less well-to-do neighbors? Do we flaunt this wealth for all to see? Are we broadcasting our fortunate lifestyle to the wrong people? Have I installed the proper fixes to my situation? Will the police arrive in time? If not, what can I do to add security that will solve most of my security problems?
Any of these questions and many more that you have not answered can aid the criminal in their mission to make you or your family the victim of a crime! Here is how to check mate most of their next moves.
Spend a few days observing your family and the neighborhood around you. Make a list of safety concerns. Make another list of security problems that you discover. This will be like money in the bank! Once you do this you can use the list to prioritize the problems into a manageable solution with the proper fixes. Start with the basic questions that I mentioned above. From this you can begin to make priorities for the security of your family home.
The best way to make this list is to act the part of a serious predator and criminal. Don’t tell your family what you are doing. I will tell you why. You want them to act like they usually do. From this vantage point, Observe and record what you would do to attack the family if you were really the bad guy. Write every point down on your list as soon as you discover it. You don’t want to leave anything out of this life saving exercise. Do this.
Watch your family in the morning, the noon time, when they come home from school or work, and even after the sun drops below the horizon.
Go outside after dark and walk around the property. Get the actual scene from a criminal’s point of view. Caution! Do not trespass on a neighbor’s adjoining property after dark! You don’t want to be accused of snooping or even worse! No one needs to be arrested for trying to do the right thing. Save this Article to back up your story just in case something goes wrong. Believe me, the police won’t believe you unless you have something to back up your story. Take my word for this, I know what I am talking about.
When you are done with this exercise sit down with your spouse and discuss in great length what you have been doing. Get their input into the entire situation. Record their personal ideas and observations about what you discovered.
Now, since they are aware of what to do, ask them to take their turn and do the same thing over the period of the next several weeks. I tell you to do this because different minds see things in different ways. It is better to have several adults involved than otherwise. You are likely to be surprised at what your spouse can see that you may have missed.
When their observation is done, sit down and combine the two lists together. Talk over the new factors involved and include any new ideas about any new or unusual problems. Think about the list and refresh the reading of it in your mind several times. Carry a notebook and a pen with you always. If any new idea pops into your mind be sure to write it down quickly. You will be surprised at how well this works, especially if you read the list before bed time and also during the afternoon. You will be amazed at what you discover about your security situation that you never suspected!
Word of caution: Leave the children out of this exercise. You do not want them to become afraid of their own home. Besides, you want them to act normal, (yeah right) if that is possible.
You will enjoy this exercise. Later, you will thank me. It will become a new adventure but it may very well save a life! That is what we want to do.
You have enough to do for the next few weeks. In my next newsletter, of which there will be many, I will focus on some important pointers that will allow you to beef up what you and your spouse have been doing with this exercise. I will show you how to attack several key security issues from a different perspective. Have fun out there, but be cautious, and stay safe. Blessings to you and yours. Forrest.
